How was the list for selection selected?
All stars
What was the year Galvin was really robbed of the all star, they gave it to Murphy of Cork instead I think?
I have to call the poll as gerrymandered. GPA all-stars have been inexplicably excluded.
It could have been any number of years.
As much as he was robbed how many fellas won all stars without getting to an all Ireland 1/4 final over the last 20 years?
In Mullingar .
Some midlands shithole
@Fulvio_From_Aughnacloy you named 51 midfielders from the era and left out John Galvin, yet named every two bob nordie that ever stood in for a thrown in. The poll is a sham, a farce and a sham.
You are correct in your analysis although I remember Begley having a goal chance where he hit the crossbar at a pivotal moment . That said Tyrone were far slicker
Whatâs worse is Begley hit the cross bar and they went down and got a goal straight off it. Then hit another goal a minute later. If that Begley chance had gone in it would have changed the course of irish history.
Begley had many qualities but you would have liked that chance to have fallen another forward .
That same team (I think) had outrageous bad fortune in the minor munster final. Mark Culhane, from Glin, scored a great goal but it hit the back stanchion and came out and the dozy umpires never awarded it.
Serious question.
Did this John Gavin guy ever even play at Croke Park.
He played in the Munster Championship FFS, two wins in a season and Limerick would be in Croke Park, he couldnât even manage that.
Gary Brennan even managed to get Clare to Croke Park.
According to your votes, when getting beat by Derry in 2006 Tyrone had 2 of the best 6 defenders of the last 20 years and 1 of the 4 best midfielders on the field, and Iâm sure you will be voting for Dooher in the forwards. Thatâs supposedly four of the best footballers of the last 20 years on the field and they getting well beat by a Derry team who were eventually put out of their misery by Longford. Ricey got destroyed against Sligos half forward line in 2002, it was Hartes system that allowed him make a name for himself.
Most of the Tyrone team in 2002 were just out of u21.
When they won an All Ireland in 2003.
The starting age of the team was
Devine 21
Ricey 24
McAnallen 22
Gourley 22
Jordan 22
Devlin 24
Gormley 22
Cavanagh 20
Hughes 22
Dooher 28
McGuigan 22
Cavlan 28
Mulligan 21
Canavan 32
McGinley 22
Itâs crazy how young and inexperienced that Tyrone team that won Sam was and they always had to do it the hard way. Iâd say its unprecedented since that a team as young as that could win a football All Irealnd.
Youâve ignored the fact that Kerry most years Kerry were parachuted into the last 12 by virtue of winning one match against a county who were at the basement of footballâs hierarchy.
Imagine Kerry had to go in to a Championship, playing the likes of Armagh, Down, Donegal, Derry, Monaghan, Fermanagh and they had to do without the likes of Tomas OâSe, Darragh OâSe, Gooch, Declan OâSullivan etc?
They wouldnât have made it past June.
Change jersey. What championship game was that?
Galvin was an extraordinary football player, like Donaghy on steroids, he could have been a team of the millennium full forward on a good team, instead he was often a one man show at midfield for Limerick.
The basketball influence was strong, definitely top ten here but couldnât be seriously considered for one of two spots
