weāll debate waving israeli flags later or tipp or clare or whatever flags , no problemā¦
but for now im fascinted as to how you drew the conclusion that he was / is " a truly terrible goalkeeper" and was the best cork had from a " gang of retards " in this period.
what would your opinion be of other cork goalkeepers be of this time who were playing senior club in cork? what class of 'retard" were they , in your view?
look, you may be right, i dont know, if you show me reasonable evidence then fine, but i cannot understand that point you madeā¦
we can debate waving flags on another thread or wahtever you want but for the time been id like to stick to this one and discuss hurlingā¦
ive played against a few keepers who may be described " as truly terrible" at intermediate level, however ive yet to meet one at senior or fitzgibbon in my years of playing who would fit this bracket
so again could you show me the data that proves he qualifies as " a truly terrible goalkeeper" ā¦
also waht would be your criterion to fulfill such a roll?
thanks
WTB calling him a ātruly terrible goalkeeperā was definitely hyperbole and almost certainly not true but I donāt know what kind of ādataā youāre looking for him to provide. OPTA index stats or something?
ok, bad choice of words.
maybe examples of being a ātruly terrible keeperā would suffice.
its his statement that all cork had at the time was a 'bunch of retards " to play in goal as well that is puzzling meā¦
ive no problem acknowledging these statements if they can be backed up , that allā¦
Hate to contradict you there TT, but Mullinahone were beaten in that final by Clonoulty, they didnāt win it till 2002.
Leahy hit the post with a shot in the last minute and Mullinahone lost by 2 points to complete his annus horribilis.
Correct and right - but the point remains - Leahy was not a beaten man after losing the '97 AI Final - Winning a County Title with Mullinahone was, in my opinion, a bigger achievement than winning the All Ireland with Tipp. Leahy greatest achievement came after '97.

what would that achievement be tipptopps?
staying sober? getting off for grevious bodily harmā¦?
ok sorry for taking it down a level, only banter, ive heard a lot worse on the terraceā¦
what is this achievement u speak of? and also why would winning a county be a greater achievement in your estimation than geting a celtic cross??

Because of the teams he won them with. Tipp in the late 80ās - early 90ās were a serious outfit. There was a strong tradition of Tipp winning All Ireland already in place. Leahy was just a young buck - a small cog in a well oiled machine, one might say.
Mullinahone would have had no right, expectation or tradition of winning County Finals. Leahy was Captain, Leader and alround Hero to those Mullinahone players.
Tipp would have won those AIās without John Leahy, Mullinahone would never have won a County Title without Leahy.

I donāt think Donal g is a truly terrible 'keeper but I never rated him as anything better than decent enough. Getting back to goalkeeping, heās improved a good bit in recent years but heās still a level beneath the best in terms of reflexes and pure shot stopping ability, in my opinion. In terms of examples of where he could have done better, there was the drawn All Ireland semi-final against Wexford in 2003 where Rory McCarthy got that last gasp equaliser at the Hill end. Rory managed to bend one in behind Donal g from an impossible angle and Cusack did nothing to stop it.
Jokes aside, Iām actually quite shocked by the immature reaction this revelation by a truly great Cork man has provoked from some on this board. I had no doubt that the news would inflame some members, but some have embarrassed themselves more than they have embarrassed this typically proud Corkonian.
To Donal Og I say - You Go Girl!
With the boost to the book sales, I predict Sean Og will be next. Another Tfk exclusive.
fair point bandage
but in fairness it was a rocket from maccarthy, i was on hill 16 , i reckon cusack barely saw it go past him, let alone tried to save it,
it was his near post also, which is questionabele but im not sure if many keepers would of kept out such a strike,
i played (hurling) against cusack in senior club championship in cork and he kept many fine cork keepers at the time out of the cork team.
i agree he perfected his game a lot over the years and probably reached a pinnacle with his performance against waterford in 2006 when we won by a point in the AIF SF.
honestly, i think we will not see him again in a cork jersey,
