I’m not convinced but I’m not against changing. Need to see how they look on mobile first, also there are a couple of minor changes to improve how the mobile style looks on the way (the list of menu items at the top will be a dropdown instead of just a badly spaced list).
I think it’s too soon to change without getting used to this a little bit first. But I’ll put that type of more defined style together to see how it looks.
Rocko this is a bag of shit but I accept that you are a very difficult person who can’t help tinkering with something that is perfectly fine. If you make the following changes, I will give the new site my full backing and get my crew to fall in and support the new site.
Just make the quote function an actual quote function and show the fucking bit of text that a poster is quoting.
Bring back the well clamped rating.
Bring back the ignore function.
The little notification box that pops up to inform you that you have a reply/message is great. Unreal even. The joy there when I got a little message from @HBV abusing me was thrilling.
just a quick one on the reply thing, is it a feature that is irretrievable and part of the new software, or more a case of wanting to make a change and the feedback is just that and it isnt possible to change? The only reason I ask, is that now that it is settling down a bit, and people are finding out how to actually include a quote in the reply, we are now getting 2 things.
Firstly, a reply that looks completely out of place and has no logical flow.
Secondly, 5 or 6 replies all bundled together and its a never-ending stream of repetitiveness (see example below). so instead of streamlining the quote, the selected quote is now actually making it look older and more cumbersome and you potentially read the same post in a quote post up to 6 times if there is 3 responses from 2 posters.
The option to see how many have replied to a certain post seems a good option, not that I’ve used it yet though. I still think the last forum had the best option, a small little summary of the previous quoted post, and that post only regardless of the conversation being had, and an option to read it expanded if needed.
@Horsebox’s laundry list is good. Sort quote, bring back ignore. Ratings would be great but i understand you’ve sold them down the river and I’ll never understand what the fuck you were thinking. Did you even think at all?
The quotes/replies functionality is irreversible. There’s a chance I can do something about those nested quotes, which do look ugly. I’ll look into that.
That particular example is more piss taking than anything. I’m naively optimistic but I think people will use the software slightly differently over time because it’s slightly different software.
I think the most controversial change hasn’t happened yet and I’m slightly ill-prepared for what might happen when it does.
sound. There are other examples of that type of quoting though, that was just one on the thread in question that was handy to find. If there was a way to stop the second quote being carried forward, only the actual one being answered being the one carried forward. It just seems that with the reply thing being such a “forward thinking” type scenario, it has inadvertently become an older, and almost AFR farmyard type replying where it is endless relies being carried on. I couldnt remember what forum that it used to be prevalent on, but it came to me when I saw those replies that was how it looked on the farmyard too. And it was called the farmyard for a reason!
cant wait to see the other change!
by the by, only a visual thing, but would it be better on the home page of the forum, that as you scroll down, the row headings for the columns underneath follow down with it like the TFK header bar does? Doesnt bother me, but it might look visually better to see the headings, as without them, the info in the rows looks a bit out of place. I know how you like things to be spot on!
