TFK Hurling team of the last 20 years - Centre forward

Shefflin always struggled at centre forward against Wexford when Skippy Ruth was centre back. The only man who could hold him in that position. Despite that, he should waltz through this here.

I am in the process of putting together preliminary lists for full and corner forward spots. Have 15 corner forwards at this point and could add another half dozen who wouldn’t be out of place in the poll.

Full forward is a barren enough spot though. Once you take the Canning, Shefflin, Power and Callinan out of it you would do well to put another half a dozen good ones down unless you are putting in lads like Deane, Kelly and Flynn who were really more natural corner men. Surprised to see Martin Comerford won three all stars at full forward. Says it all really.

Will be a few lads like Dowling, Fennelly, Conlon, McDonald and Cooney on it but lads who are a couple of levels below the top four candidates.

Full forward is a specialist position. Old school target men full forwards like Michael Cussen, Stephen Banville and Nicky Lambert worthy of a nomination surely.

Brian Corcoran was outstanding at full forward for Cork in 2004-05.

The limerick lads won’t be happy with your Brian Begley omission

Or TJ Ryan

I’m surprised you didn’t nominate Brian Begley at full back as well.

Didn’t play enough in the full back line to be nominated.

Shocked and all as I am to say this but Niall Gilligan could easily be considered him one of the top handful of full forwards of the last 20 years

Setanta another fella maybe?

He was right corner forward for the one year he played.

Was he not all full forward and replaced by Corcoran? Corcoran got the most wonderful goal versus Waterford. His book is a good read.

No, right corner forward, he burst on the scene giving Frank Lohan a right run around. Alan Browne and Deane the other two inside with Deane mainly at full

I had to go with Joe at CF because Callanan has to be FF.

He was unmarkable. A huge loss to hurling.

Setanta? He was an awful awkward yoke, fierce unconventional which worked in his favour, but I reckon he’d have been figured out in time.

His hurling would have improved though. He was/is a monster of a man. And sure what’s the figure out.

Hon John Horan.

Gilligan was a fine player, but did he not play in the corner mostly?

Pat Horgan worth a mention

Yep true. Pat Horgan/mullane probably a close enough call in some ways.
