TFK Travel Thread 2009

I’ve been with more than one bird farmer, sorry if that sounds so unbelievable. My “ex” was never in Annecy, that much I can tell you, if it makes you feel better

Only looking out for you mate.

You need to let it go.

My resolution for 2009 is to let it go alright, well one of them anyway

Is she going to buy the ring Art ?

nope, been listening to phillip too much HB :D, having it made in antwerp

Looks like a nice spot alright Art but it’ll be cunt of a holiday if she says no. Maybe leave it until a few hours before departing, just in case?

if this news does not get a thread of its own on AFR then it should be added to the ‘things that are wrong’ section.
golden opportunity!

Was in Berlin a few weeks ago. Great city!

I did the bike tour with Fat Tyre Tours and it was great craic. Guide was well funny and you stop for beers half way through too. Supposed to be much better than the walking tour overall as obvisously you see way more.

I have heard the Berlin “Alternative Tour” is class.

Go on the organised backpacker pub-crawl. Messy but interesting to say the least!

Myself and 2 of the lads sre heading to Birmingham the weekend of the 6th of February for a piss up and racing in Warwick on the Saturday.

KIB Man any tips on where to head out??

My advice would be to not to go to Birmingham at all as the place in my experience is a complete shithole. Sadly I could say the same for most other places in England outside of London. Any Brummies I’ve ever met were actually a decent sort, it’s just where they live that’s the problem.

Last time I was in Birmingham (a few years back) I stayed in Jury’s and went to the nightclub “Flares” across the roads. There is a daycent chipper for after hours, good chance of a scrap to watch, and then a few birds back to the hotel. It’s not a bad spot, but I wouldn’t be a big fan.

Are Villa playing that weekend at home? You could do worse than see the next John Barnes in action?

Broad St where Jury’s is located in probably your best bet. Do not go into Wetherspoons tho. There is a few nice restaurants and bars down by the canal just off Broad St aswell. Flares seems familiar for some reason. I was getting brought around by lads from the city so cant really remember where we were going. I stayed in Jury’s. As with all English cities be prepared for some of the most scantily clad young white trash that you ever have seen.

One thing I noticed about my recent night out in the city was the integration of all different races inside in the same bars and clubs. In London the asians in particular tend to stick to their own. In Bham every one was mixed up together. Good to see.

City is a shit hole pretty much tho.

Rintintin is your man to give you advice on going out in Birmingham, in particular on how to attack strip club bouncers.

I’m going in a few weeks for Villa-Chelsea but only on a day trip.

Always find it strange that Irish people turn their nose up at going to Wetherspoons. Most of the time when I’m in England or wherever on a lads’ jolly up, it’s the first place I’ll seek out. The Shakespeare at Victoria in London, the Prince of Wales in Cardiff by the train station, I’ve had loads of great days out in them, can’t understand why some Irish people think they are above them.

The one in Bham has security in full high vis jackets inside the door of the bar. Not the kind of place id chance going into but each to their own.

You’ll surely admit they can be dodgy enough places though Sledge. I recall getting accosted in one in Glasgow the morning after a game when I was only in for a fry up. They attract all sorts of down and outs and nutters.

There’s one in Twickenham thats a savage spot - great craic

That is a common enough sight all over Britain, especially on match days. I think it makes sense, personally speaking. Same way there is nothing worse than people shiting on about how dangerous “town” is of a Saturday night, but they’re always the type of people who would never drink in town at the wekeends themselves.

A lot of clubs in Dublin have bouncers inside and outside, I fail to see what difference the colour of their togs makes.

Dodgy enough yeah, but not that you feel afraid of going. You’ll surely admit that Glasgow is a total dump and you are liable to bump into all sorts of rehabs anywhere in Glasgow, especially on a match day or morning after a match day.

True. And now that I think back, it was larryduff and rocko who were accosting me. But having been in a few around England, Scotland and Wales, they strike me as fairly kippish places.
