And their bobsleighs have crashed out

And their (American) Badboy ‘Wrecker’ Del Bosco

What the fuck is all the shouting in aid of in the curling?

A very tense game between Scotland and Denmark. 7-7 in end 9. you can see the pressure on 19 year old Eve Muirheads, scotlands young skip, face.(i definitly would) she has struggled with her shot selection throughout this match.

The Brits are great to bottle it. Backed against them at 9/4 the other night when they were beaten.

Great to see womens sweeping becoming an Olympic sport.

:o were you drunk??

I’ve never watched this before, are the ones with the brushes part of the team as well?

A few drinks had been taken. I don’t really understand the sport but its worth watching to listen to the BBC sound depressed when they lose.

The memory of Rhona Martin and her gold medal winning team of 2002 still casts a long shadow over British curling, and I’ve often thought that in the long run it has proved to be more of a hindrance to the new generation. It’s always difficult having to follow such a legend.

Game set and match to Denmark. Thy touched even money a few minutes ago and was going to drop a few quid on them as I like money but they’ve gone to 1/6 now so fook that.

Indeed…its a tough act to follow. two down going into the last end. Its looking ominous for scotland. It was a mistake to appoint a talent such as muirhead skip. such a burden on talented shoulders. They play Canada in their last game, so defeat here could mean scotland will be home early.

Reminds me of when Ian Botham was appointed E&W cricket captain for the '81 Ashes series. The burden was just too great for him to carry. But when they took leadership mantle off Botham and handed it to a safe pair of hands in Mike Brearly, the selectors were rewarded handsomely as Beefy’s natural flair could find free expression once again. Hopefully the selectors make the right call after this match on the skip position. Let Eve’s talent roam I say.

Good shot from eve to keep scotland in the game. she truly is a talent. turned down a golf scholarship in the states to focus on her first love curling/stay away from tiger. 2 handicapper i think.

Big stone here. Huge stone in fact.

Are there always good looking birds in this thing?

so close. cracking shot though…eve will learn and grow from this experience

Yes. Always.

What an effort there from Eve Muirhead, showed her undoubted prodigious talent on that last stone, and so unlucky not to take out all four Danish stones. But Marie DuPont’s steadiness over all ten ends just about deserved the win overall. Still a mathematical chance of qualification, but a seemingly imposssible task is in store against not just a superb Canadian team but a fanatical home crowd. But as Rhona Martin says, they are only human and they are beatable. It’s just a question of belief.

Dave Murdoch and the boys hoping to make amends for GB in the men’s curling against Germany at 3am. The kettle is already on, the coffee already brewing. For you Fritz, ze Vancouver 2010 is OVER!

young Eve shouldering the blame for the defeat in the interview… she is skip material but alas not yet. hopefully scotland can recover and put it up to the canadians. these games need Eve Muirhead in the knockout stages where im sure her talents will thrive.

Excellent news overnight as Dave Murdoch and Team GB annihilated the Germans 8-2 in the Men’s Curling to give themselves a great chance of a semi-final spot. German skip Andy Kapp proved aptly nsmed as he struggled all the way through. In fact the pressure of the Olympics seemed to paralyse him and he may well now have a case for inclusion in the Paralympic curling tournament instead. GB now face Norway where a win will guarantee a last four spot but even defeat would result in a second chance via a play off.

After I somehow missed out on the excitement of the Turin Games in 2006 the last couple of nights have felt like becoming reacquainted with an old friend. Memories of Salt Lake City in 2002 have come flooding back. Perhaps it’s to do with the similar time zone and the matches taking place late at night as they did eight years ago. Tonight I think I’ll get some finger food like cocktail sausages or olives in to accompany of a couple of cans of low alcohol beer while watching the curling. And two Camel Lights, the second one saved for that crucial tenth end. I find it a therapeutic experience at the end of a long day.

If your curiosity has been aroused, Anna Thompson’s Curling Blog is fine reading for both the newcomers and the already knowledgable fans of this excellent sport.

Gwan ta fuck Aoife Hoey.

Sid,

what time is young eve and her team in action later on? I hope it doesnt clash with the hurling match. I have a feeling she could produced an excellent display following her comments in last nights interview.

Not sure exactly Declan but I’ll certainly be tuning in after Newsnight to see what action is taking place. It’s a real mountain for Eve to climb as Team GB take on Canada. But often in adversity does real talent flourish. I’ll be rooting for her. Vinnie will have to do without me tonight.

Really looking forward to the sport on the box tonight, which is timely as the weather is so horrid outside. Hurling, Champions League and Curling. Great stuff.
