Throughout history people have always struggled to articulate the difference between far right and far left.
It used to be maybe that far left were open to immigrants but we’ve far left now calling to close borders. Like their Soviet predecessors.

But the swing to far right nonsense is what has cost Republicans, so a further swing will cost them more at local and national level. I’ve explained this to you in the past, the decisive voters in US elections are independents who won’t vote for extremes from either side of the spectrum. That explains why so many voted for Republican candidates at the local level and also voted for Biden, it happened in literally every swing state.
Who has praised gript? Only one young lad to my recollection.
The Irish Times publishes opinion pieces like any publication. They are from a wide variety of sources. Many of them will be from a centre left viewpoint. Ireland is a largely centre left country. Centre left politics does largely place a high value on truth and reason.
And it is an actual newspaper, whose meat and drink is actual news. It is not here to disinform, it is there to inform.
Much as I wouldn’t be a massive fan of the Indo, it largely does the same.
There is no comparison whatsoever between that and Gript.
But that is the reality. People of progressive left ideology like yourself think it’s a good idea to release 63K violent criminals onto our streets, at a time when violent crime is high and trending higher. Do you think that’s a good idea?
Trump saw his vote go from 62 million to 74 million at the last election. Any small drop in enthusiasm for the Democrat - and that is likely coming in 2022, or more effective voter suppression, and the Democrats are screwed, they only hold the senate on a casting vote as it is, and a loss of either the senate or the house means they can’t govern, the Q Party won’t allow it. The Republican party is only going to go further right. It has 74 million people it can rely on. They’re radicalised and they’re angry. Trumpism didn’t go away with Trump. And Trump hasn’t gone away. As long as that’s the case, an already very imperfect democracy in America is under mortal threat.
Have you wondered why America has such a violent crime rate?
If you ask why, you’re branded a communist, as I have been regularly by you.
If you ask why America has mass incarceration and the highest rate of imprisonment in the world, you’re branded a communist.
The US right-wing never asks why. That would require thinking. And thinking is the enemy of the easy, seductive answer.
Biden got 81 million votes. The risk to Democrats in 2022 isn’t from Republicans, it’s from shooting themselves in the foot as it always is.
It’s also from a one sided media propaganda landscape which shows not just shows no sign of letting up but is growing considerably.
I did try to explain this to you at the time
Pretty much all US cities with the highest violent crime rates are run by the progressive left, Chicago, Baltimore, Oakland, St louis, go through the list yourself. Most have been run by progressives for decades. Why is violent crime so high in these cities if progressive policies are the solution? It’s not like progressives haven’t the power to solve it, they control the budget, they control the police, they control the local legislature. If it were right wing governance I would agree with you, but you are simply not accepting ownership for problems created and maintained by progressives.
Nice avatar.
Well why don’t you tell us? You’re the expert. Isn’t crime generally higher in cities everywhere in the world?
Wow that’s eerily accurate to every part of the irish media. We are awash of the same pricks. This is leaving the void for gript.
Multiple reasons but I would say #1 is politicians who view criminals as victims and victims as criminals. We have a great law here that allows you steal up to $950 without being charged, but you better not try and stop a thief.
So why are the six safest countries in world: Iceland, New Zealand, Portugal, Austria, Denmark and Canada?
Now I’m not an expert on all these countries, but what I think is correct about (nearly) all of them is that they are (nearly) all countries which place a pretty high value on fairly comprehensive welfare states, truth, and have a fairly enlightened view of prisoner rehabilitation. I’m sure all of them have their faults but my impression of them is they do “joined up thinking” (sorry for the cliche) pretty well. America seems to me to be one of the least enlightened countries for understanding the knock on effects of ideology in one part of society for another area in society, and many of those who do make a genuine effort to understand the effects of the intersection of policies across different areas of society are effectively shouted down by the widespread obsession with seductive, easy soundbytes.
I haven’t read all of Michelle Alexander’s “The New Jim Crow” but my take away from what I have read of it is that the dice is very much loaded against young blacks and Latinos, especially males, in every way, and I guess to an extent against poorly off whites too. If they fall into the mass incarceration system at a young age, it is very difficult to ever find a way out of it.
Solving that would require a fundamental re-understanding of society and the ideology which guides it across a range of fields, something that I don’t see happening in America in my lifetime, not least because of the binary nature of politics.
I really don’t think self styled “law and order” (a misnomer if ever there was one) politicians are the answer to that. In my view, they never are. They’re pretty much always people who only care about getting re-elected and realise that such soundbytes are a very effective formula for winning re-election.
Not many Americans living in them?
