Arguments made on here by the awkward squad are now being accepted i see

They arent coming here for the generous benefits

"About 796 people came in the month up to January 22nd, that compares to a total of 2,150 in December.

“Alongside this, Ukrainians are now leaving State-provided accomodation at a higher rate to seek independent lodgings, return to Ukraine or travel elsewhere.”

These applications are from war torn countries

A safe country is defined as a one where, on the basis of the legal situation, there is generally no persecution, torture or inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

It is understood the Minister plans to add more countries to the current list of eight which includes Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo and South Africa.

Is the war over?

A cut in benefits and they’re no longer interested in a safe haven?

It would be interesting to see data on how many Ukrainians have taken up Benefits v Work since arriving here.

Locally here quite a few younger / middle aged people are definitely working. Most seem fully skilled and able.

The flip side is the older generation seem to be happy to take the benefits available and spend their days in the area of accommodation provided.

“Rural independent” is code for far right

Language and inability to speak English is probably a major barrier to the Labour market for older people.

I see Aontu being categorised as far right in the media today. Things are fairly skewed if that’s the case.

Who isn’t far right?

Yeah, but people in late 50’s & 60’s aren’t interested in the labour market.
In saying that, I’d imagine they’ll be happy to return home also.

In general, the person in their 20’s & 30’s appear to be well educated, have good English & skilled.
They are finding work & adaption to life here easy enough.
