The years of decline in that plot overlap with Covid, a period when travel was severely restricted. It omits the more recent Ukraine War, and we know that travel is not as restricted currently. Also, net migration is made up of immigration into and emigration from the country during the year. It will not always show when you have an issue with sharp growth in immigration, which we clearly are having.
The uncontrolled immigration we are seeing is a major concern for a lot of people. Did we as a people sign up to having people losing / destroying travel documents in transit and being given free passage into the country? Maybe some people did, but I know that I did not.
We are already seeing an increase in pressure on public services . Irish people on housing waiting lists are having their cases kicked down the road indefinitely like the proverbial can. Local residents in Irish towns and villages have been vocal about their sense of deterioration in the quality of public amenities. There is also growing social disharmony off the back of the back of the rapid immigration we’ve been seeing in recent months. These negative impacts of immigration are real, and they counteract the potential positives of immigration. They cannot simply be swept under the rug, like the government is trying to do. Foisting busloads of immigrants onto an area, under cover of darkness and with no public consultation, is always going to lead to unrest. It smacks of underhandedness and people are right to be agrieved. Demanding proper border controls and due process doesn’t make someone a racist.
They all get refused leave to land on paper but they mention the A-word and come in anyway.
Can’t send them back anyway as they’ve destroyed their boarding cards and won’t tell you where they’ve come from and the airport police are far too busy ensuring no one parks in the set down to check the cameras
I had dealings with CBP yesterday as another poor asylum seeker showed up with someone else’s US passport and about 8 grand in cash. It’s insane how much information they have.
If someone rings me asking about the legitimacy of an Irish passport I’ve no way of knowing
