It didn’t seem to me that Matt Cooper was being called a fascist, rather it seemed like a poster doing that thing certain posters do where they claim so and so is being called a fascist when nobody here has actually done that.

It’s very easy to disregard the protests in East Wall as being whipped up by ‘Far Right’ fascists when it’s not on your doorstep. The fact is this is not the case. The majority of protestors are residents concerned for the safety of their area. I have heard other points (as well as others) made that access to local health services is now even more difficult, than it originally was. Booking an appointment to get bloods checked can take at least 2 months to get.
Your point about not engaging with local residents is wrong as well as dangerous, if you’re asking for violence this is how you get it. Your view is something I’m seeing all across middle/upper class twitter, and it is showing a contempt for the working class. Do you not think their opinion should be heard? Do you think they are so low IQ that they cannot think for themselves? A quick google of the ’ Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal’ would put the fear of god in any working class parent living in the presence of undocumented migrants.
Furthermore, the vast majority (other than genuine racists) have no qualms against genuine refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine, although personally I would have an issue with men of fighting age fleeing. What kind of man are you that you don’t fight for your country? But I digress.
The chief concern is undocumented migrants coming here with no documentation/passports etc. We have no idea who these people are, why are they here, their country of origin etc. For example the man who went on a stabbing rampage in Killarney, the authorities have no idea who that chap is. The Irish Times have reported that 40% of asylum seekers who arrive at Dublin Airport have no travel documents.
Imagine having young kids living down the road from 100s of men in their 20s/30s idle and not having a scooby doo if these men are potentially dangerous to the community. Take their nationality out of it, it’s not racist to realise most of those who break the law are men laying idle in their 20s/30s.

Agreed. No denying the genuine racists have jumped on the East Wall bandwagon, but the majority of protestors are residents of the local area who have no real political ties.
If the powers that be don’t engage with the residents regarding their issues, those residents will be voting for the National Party etc come the next election. The more they are ignored, the better it is for the ‘Far Right’ parties.
These demonstrations are being whipped up by the far right. That’s what they do, they go into communities and target them, lie to them, and claim that their communities are about to be overrun by gangs of rapists who will rape and murder their daughters.

Have they looked into areas of the Country where asylum seekers & Ukrainians have settled in brilliantly as an example as opposed to “ Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal “ example you so neatly posted?
Undocumented migrants. Call it scare tactics if you wish but one example amongst many others in England unfortunately. Terrifying, only happened in working class areas.
The biggest issue is an information vacuum that is allowing the far right to spread lies. I have absolutely no idea what Ireland’s policies or rules on immigration or refugees is or what they are entitled to? Can they work? Claim the dole? Get social housing?
99pc of people haven’t a clue and despite all these recent protests nobody is coming out clearly and explaining the system. In the meantime stories like the African woman throwing away a 600 euro buggy as it wouldn’t fit on the bus grow legs among the easily led.
Maybe loads of ‘fighting age’ men are coming here but explain who, why and what they do when they get here and it might take the legs out from under the far righters. Most (possibly all) foreign people and their kids I’ve met through underage sport are the absolute solid finest.
Lack of communication to the residents of East Wall is throwing more and more fuel to the fire.
Now I’m open to correction on this but Asylum seekers cannot work, but are housed, fed and giving an allowance but I don’t believe this is much. The Ukrainians are given dole without much red tape along with housing (where possible… housing crisis and all that) and given we pretty much know their story once they have the documents to prove they are fleeing Ukraine.
The main issue with those in East Wall is that alot of potential asylum seekers are claiming to be Ukrainian when they’re not… this is what has led to the significant increase in undocumented migrants. And this is the issue that those in East Wall have problems with if only they were listened to. Now whether the asylum seekers in East Wall are genuine or undocumented or not is another thing. Again, lack of communication here to all parties involved.
In fairness there is an evil bad minded section here already too. We arguably have more scumbags per capita than a lot of other countries as we are very soft on them.
Integration and education is key. From my experience anyway people are people. Most people just want to get on in life and most people are very good.
Saying that, housing refugees now is the big problem. We cannot house whats currently here for varying reasons - a lot of the time because of nimbys from the welcoming political parties (who are complete hypocrites), the cost of building estates and the lack of available labour.
Lads (and thats who has being doing it) , losing their passports at arrival in Dublin airport, need to be pushed back. No question about it. We don’t have a choice but to find a way around that for genuine refugees. It has to be done. It doesnt matter its part and parcel of being an EU participant.
