200k for Mary Wilson seems a touch on the high side
If you are made redundant you can access pension early subject to some nuances
A dog with a mallet up his arse could do the same job for half that amount.
Would she not be doing a lot more than Ray D’arcy? At least she’s asking relatively important questions. That chancer just uses his 3pm slot to produce fake laughs and shout his beliefs.
On a separate note did I read on here that Wilson was married to Tony O’ Donoghue at one stage?
That in itself is worth 200k a year
They were, an understanding man, the judge gave them a pass on the mandatory separation period
If you are self employed - as a contractor is - you can’t be made redundant
gilgamboa: Fagan_ODowd:No I’m say he is funding his own pension which is why he might need a couple of more years at the trough to fill it out. Plus he’s 58 this year and can’t draw down a pension until he’s 60 so he’ll have to cling on at least for another couple of years.
If he is getting a pension out of RTÉ then he’s almost certainly not a legit contractor and he’d have even bigger problems.

And of course RTE, rather than seeing this an opportunity to get rid of deadwood contractors, put most of them on staff contracts
It was on foot of legal advice no? It turned out they were more a contract of service than contract for service …
They were employees. RTÉ can’t just side step employment and tax law by calling them consultants / contractors

still couldve gotten rid of some of them or put them on significantly less money

oh i know, it still presented an opportunity: here’s our contract of service and seeing as youll be joining the RTE pension scheme it pays a lot less. im sure youll agree it s most unfair but sign it or be on your way
Yeah it suited them to be contractors until it didn’t

gonna be a hefty bill. wouldve preferred if the commissioners had prosecuted as a deterrent to others

No I’d say they had them over a barrel because they were loose contracts to begin with …so instead of fighting it all the way through the courts they just done it . I mean if legal advise said they were actually contracts of service then surely the first thing contractors would have done if rte done as you said and not renewed them, is shown they were in fact employees…

id imagine there were break clauses etc as well as payments for researchers etc.
arguable as well that the contracts for an illegal purpose were void ab initio and totally unenforcable. id love to see the advice that RTE got.
Almost puts Bessie’s 3 or 4k here or there in the ha penny place
The holder of the contract is gonna have to prove gainful regular employment over a few years for more than just RTÉ.
Revenue better not let this go.
Evershades done the review for rte…
