He was at the normal retirement age as an RTE staffer . He had a good and lucrative innings .
The world won’t stop if he doesn’t come back to RTE .
Of course not, but why would you deny him the opportunity if he’s the man that will bring in listeners, the young bucks will need to up their game.
Retirement at 65 for a broadcaster is a bit ridiculous, we need older voices as well

The same argument was made for retired teachers coming back in to teach on a day rate, but…
A) they’re getting paid twice.
B) they’re stopping a young teacher from gaining valuable experience.
All this applies to O Rourke. We know he was decent but we also know now just how connected/compromised he is and can’t possibly be unbiased. He won’t be serving the public if he comes back anyway. It was in the public interest for him to tell us about golf gate and he declined.
