I’d say an awful lot of people end up having issues resolved through Joe Duffy’s show. He occasionally does a remarkable job or handling very sensitive issues and he’s also incredibly good at drawing out morons and getting them to make fools of themselves for laughs. I don’t think he’s irreplaceable but he’s very very good.
That would seem to be quite a cynical view on things. The fact is that most(possibly all) sessions of the dail are broadcast live on oireachtas tv. As are many senate sessions and committes. I’d have thought this was a very good thing in a functioning democracy. That, you know, you can see the politicians at work*. It’s occasionally very interesting in fact. They are broadcast by rte as a public service. I think this stuff should be shown for the tiny tiny audience who tunes in of they want, even though it cant possibly be financially viable.
*it’s one of the reasons i think, Pringle, Mclochlain and Cairns are shams.
I’d agree with you but none of that relates to Lyric. Lyric is the essence of public service broadcasting as @Lazarus points out, catering to minority tastes including my own. I’d sooner sell off yahoos like Dermot and Dave (or their whacky RTÉ equivalent) than shut down John Kelly.
To each their own.
I listen to the following music shows on a regular basis
Huey Morgan BBC 6
Cerys BBC 6
Movies and Musicals Lyric
John Kelly Lyric
