Great to see The 51 get some publicity. I was in there last midweek for a spot of lunch with @Cesc4 & I heard that RTÉ had cancelled an event due to take place there due to this controversy.
The digital stations are still there but as an online entity only.
I briefly did some work for one of them. It was unpaid. The ‘perk’ was a bit of paid work in return but I quickly grew tired of that. It was a glorified student radio station.
Be standard practice to hand out goodie bags at these things with branded merch in them, no? Like the Anglo golf balls and umbrellas in days of yore. I have branded power packs, windcheaters and my favorite a branded dressing gown that I got at a golf outing during the Celtic Tiger (wtf).
I think there is a big difference between televising the Dail/Senate and a committee hearing. I’m absolutely in favour of the first.
I’d agree my view is cynical but I’d suggest you’re naive if you don’t think there is truth in it. All I’m suggesting is that the priority of politicians is politics and actions follow the motivations.
For example - I don’t think it’s any surprise that the committees wanted the RTE execs etc in front of them as quickly as possible. Arguably, giving them more time to gather data would prevent the drip drip effect we’ve seen. Most court cases give time to allow discovery etc. However, the politicians knew that to feed the media cycle they wanted to get them in front of cameras asap to allow the grandstanding to commence…
