And RTE holding a goodbye party and then pontificating about others going off on holidays is what people have a problem with, that and some of the capers on the Claire Byrne show.
There seems to be a fierce stigma about the C-19 in Ireland.
And then broadcasting live from a Covid-ridden hospital when there was no need to be there.
People should direct their anger at the lads who made the ten person at a funeral rules.
I’m discussing this topic on it’s merit.
People are wrong here, claiming RTE are trying to shame people. They reported on a hot topic. DIdn’t out anybody and got the views of 2 people who were willing to stand over the travel.
Nothing wrong.
and where exactly in the broadcasting act is this power vested in RTE? RTE are answerable to the taxpayer, not the other way around.
and if someone goes on holidays they are answerable to the authorities with the requisite regulatory powers and their friends and neighbours, but not fucking RTE
what would that achieve?
Most people understand that these are difficult times and are cooperating as best they can in hard circumstances.
People going on holidays in the backdrop of this are cunts. I didn’t need an RTE report for me to think this.
Was it an essential journey to go and interview these people at the airport?
It’s sensationalist. I agree with the crux of the argument that people are being incredibly selfish going on holidays but RTE being the vehicle to do it, moralising and pontificating when they took no action against far more serious breaches by their own top earners…
That is the trigger for a lot of people’s annoyance.
I wonder if the Prime Time guy at the airport has had a recent PCR test himself?
Also if he was paying any attention to the advice given on other RTE programmes he would know the mask he was wearing in the airport isn’t worth a f**k!
RTE have their share of fuckups, of course, plenty of shitty pontificating presenters etc etc etc
But my point is that this is a public interest story, they can’t drop everything because a few of their employees were caught out in some shindig or other.
I can’t believe that anybody would have fucked off to Lanzarote two weeks ago at the pinnacle of the pandemic here, and they’re thinking they’ll have no questions to answer, nobody to explain themselves to?
saying RTE are hypocrites is fine, but this is ridiculous
did you view the piece? I’m wagering you didn’t
Would you rather the national news outlet only reported on what you like? It’s a hot topic. It wasn’t done in a sensational way. They filmed.
Any shame or outrage is implied.
But they chose to take no action against their employees and then feel it proper to shame members of the public who have probably acted selfishly but haven’t actually broken any law.
It’s all theatre. Consider the media attention given to returning holidaymakers, The Berlin Bar, Dame Lane, Golfgate, high profile funerals vs hospital transmission, outbreaks in nursing homes identified as high risk by HIQA months earlier, the collapse of test and trace, the inability yo fast track ICU capacity increases, the lack of clear benchmarks for going in and out of lockdown etc.
The “news” reported is the most tabloidy and easily digestible as opposed to the most journalistically relevant.
What does an RTÉ camera in an airport achieve?
nobody is willing to argue this on it’s merits anymore since I put up the video
it’s suddenly become was it an essential journey? RTE fucked up previously
Glad that was cleared up.
Would you say the same at Christmas?
Yeah RTÉ got the reaction they sought to provoke. I wonder did RTE only send employees that lived within 5k of Dublin airport?
jesus lad. Read things before diving in would you
So it’s justifiable to harangue them in public?
It’s tabloid populist stuff. From a national broadcaster I’d expect more. I’d expect a critique of HSE and NPHET and not just a reading of their daily press release. I’d expect them to have more than the same 4 or 5 contributors each week.
