That's it ! everybody in RTE should be executed forthwith

they fucked up. That happened in the past.
So anything else they do shouldn’t be argued on it’s merits?

People are too quick to be outraged. There was fuck all in that “report”

maybe this was their way of challenging it. It’s created a backlash and highlighted the issue, certainly

No.

Cleary not. It wasn’t a fuck up, it was double standards. High earning RTE employees are allowed to break regulations but the commoner should be shamed for it.

ok, you’re unwilling to argue this one on it’s merits. Good luck to you

I think the issue is that you are looking for two sets of standards. One for the common man and one for RTE.

That’s a fair point but the 5km distance restriction is pretty clear to cover the issue.

Miriam said she was “genuinely” sorry

Other than people who live in a 5km radius of Dublin airport?

The gov’s stance is utterly ludicrous, it’s confusing, indecisive and rather than showing leadership it’s case of them absolving themselves of responsibility.

Don’t travel for unnecessary reasons - and there is a list of what’s essential - seems straightforward

This is very confusing. You’re against restrictions and laws for other parts of the response but want more here?
Would you rather there was a punishment for it?

I think you have an agenda against the “Free State” and are opportunistically looking for any way to hammer it. It’s kind of a theme, and as such you can’t argue anything on it’s merits

You’re ignoring RTE though.

I’m not angry at either RTE or the people who went away on a foreign holiday. I buried a family member a couple of weeks back where only 10 were in the church and those tend plus the 6 of us who carried the coffin could go to the grave. It was horrible. Just such a disconnect.

But it is an entirely different situation to comparing it to anger at others going on holiday. I wouldnt go on holiday myself. I just think it isnt right. But in terms of the increasing numbers (now actually decreasing) those who went to Lanzarote on holiday or otherwise are not making any significant impact in any of the numbers being shown. There are far, far more bigger issues that are causing huge transmissions which is where the focus should be. RTE are contributing to the curtain twitching, the reporting of neighbours or general outrage of someone breaking the rules.

I was, and still am, furious about the funeral in my neighbouring parish. Lock in pubs, marquees and kegs, and hundreds of people at a funeral and hundreds more who got infected, some of whom died. That was ridiculous and ought to be shamed. People going on holiday, to an island with very low rates and having to be tested prior to going there, would be way down on my list of things to be angry about. RTE are adding to the tabloid nature of all this in what they report on. I hadnt seen the live broadcast, but social media is full of people furious at these holiday makers as a result of this segment.

As an aside, as it was mentioned earlier, I think forcing Phil Hogan to resign was ridiculous, cutting off our collective nose so to speak, I think the outrage over the vaccines in the Coombe equally as ridiculous. I also have no issue with Micheal Martin travelling to the USA.

I’m sorry for your loss and I wish you well.

This at least is an argument on the merits of the report to a certain extent. The reaction to the report is anger because of the restrictions people are suffering collectively - RTE cannot be blamed for the reaction. People have a right to be angry at it?

Would you rather they buried it and people weren’t aware that people were going on holidays, or were going to pubs or whatever RTE can report on? I don’t think that’s right

I don’t think people were outed by the report, it was soft handed. The shame is implied by people because deep down they know that going on a holiday during this isn’t right

Can you not see the contradiction of a Taoiseach calling for everyone to not venture 5km outside their homes, not to bury their loved ones, not to visit loved ones, as he heads to the US on a junket?

@EstebanSexface, he’s already answered your questions.

RTE have lots of reporters and have covered nearly every aspect of the pandemic

Some people will be outraged by everything they do regardless.

has he travelled?

He will. Mark my words he will, irrespective of anything.

I think RTE are just pandering to their audience here. The curtain twitching set are going ape all over the Internet. The government have gotten the narrative away from outbreaks in meat plants, hospitals etc and on to (statistically very safe) international travel and Maura, Breda and Nuala are lapping it up. It’s a lovely scapegoat.
