US 2031 will be NFL stadiums of course (same for the football one in 2026).
Riggings o Carroll Kelly has been googling furiously all morning but came up with very little.
Ireland - GGA stadiums.
Australia - Aussie Rules + Rugby League
New Zealand probably the only country that could do it with primarily rugby union grounds.
What gaa stadiums could host a World Cup game? Are you even allowed terracing ?
Arcbishop park is sub standard as is the one in cork
The rest are dumps
Rugby league owns no stadiums of note in Australia.
Even the best Afl grounds are cricket grounds
They own Marvel Stadium to be fair.
Isnât the big one in Auckland a cricket pitch.
Eden Park - Blues play most of their home games there as well as the All Black games. Dunno if either the cricket or rugby crowd actually own it.
A lot of them including in Australia are municipal stadiums I guess with several tenants.
Probably only Croker could do it without fairly extensive works. PUC at least would have some corporate facilities. The others would be all miles off it.
We wonât be hosting an RWC anytime soon. But obviously if we were making any bid we would be fairly dependent on the GAA grounds.
Casement Park will probably make the grade too.

Has the criteria changed dramatically since 2011? Some of the stadiums used in NZ were in a worse state than the current Casement, the one with a speedway track around the pitch and a wind turbine in one corner was particularly memorable.
You couldnât be hosting an international event in croke park nowadays.

Ah it could take another Eucharistic Congress
I dunno why the Aviva, murrayfield, Twickenham and the millennium stadium isnât used a World Cup.
One group in one stadium and each city getting a quarter final.
Toss for the semis, 3rd/4th play off and the final.
Would be a great tournament for fans to be based in one city and be a very green tournament.
We donât need half these stadiums.
I just donât think World Rugby would go for the likes of Cusack Park these days.
When the teams head for the shed at half time they are not meant to be going to an actual shed.
We donât have the public transport or the hotels for an event like this.
The NZ World Cup at the time was viewed as the last of its era.
They were given it because it was viewed that Australia had fucked them over in 2003.
Ireland scored very badly on stadium infrastructure. We wonât be ever getting it by ourselves. At this stage it looks like it will be 2035 in the U.K. & Ireland at best.
You have Japan, England, South Africa, Australia and France all capable of hosting it by themselves. If the US in 2031 goes okay theyâll get added to that rotation. Argentina and Italy also can do it but have more challenges.
I do think 2035 will be U.K. and Ireland because of the votes the Home Nations have. That will probably be it for most of our lifetimes.
A Celtic bid should have gone in for 2023.
There is a lot of frenemies stuff between the Celtic nations though. Wales in particular donât behave well towards Ireland.
A bid of;
- Aviva
- Croke Park
- Thomond
- PuC
- upgraded Northern ground of some description
- Millennium
- Swansea
- Parc y Scarlets
- Murrayfield
- Celtic Park
- Aberdeen
You could honestly cut out a couple there as well given France only used 9.
Madness it has never been even suggested but it tells the tale of the relationships there in the Celtic unions.
