The Cheltenham NH Festival 2013

I can’t believe a well reared Clare man born and bred small miles from the home of Derek Oconnor and kieron fallon is backing a fucking city banker in the gold cup

he jumps to the right ! Needs to go right handed

He has a lovely coat.

So has your mother CM.

Any thoughts on French opera in the last? Geraghty chose him for a reason

The rain could fuck everything up by that last race, if it’s soft you know what too look for, something with course form on soft low down

Yes, word from a while back was that the delay was due to O’Leary/McManus negotiations

I am on renard, take a look at oh crick

So this is a post that come about 3.30 will make me look like a genius or will put massive egg on my face. I’ve long been an opponent of Sir Des Champs despite tipping him up here to win in Leopardstown last season against Hidden Cyclone. I can never understand the hype about the horse. When I go through his races, I struggle to see where he has beaten what I’d class as quality horses. In the Hennessy he beat a sick horse who can’t stay 3m, a plodder who’s past his best and a horse who can’t jump fences. In the Lexus he stayed on strongly but was beaten by a horse not deemed good enough to take his place in the Gold Cup until getting injured, another who can’t stay 3m and another who was slammed by Cue Card yesterday.

Even his apparent most impressive wins don’t do it for me. His Jewson win last year got him off the bridle against another horse who was slammed yesterday. It was also a terrible quality Jewson compared to this years renewal. Gigginstown were afraid to take on Bob Worth last year in the RSA so took the easy option. His first win at the festival where he came from the clouds to storm up the hill was visually impressive but what did he beat? The winner of last years Coral Cup who was lined up for the race but aside from that he beat a bunch of sub standard horses.
He would have been beaten by Knockfierna in Limerick only for the horse ran out. He barely beat a sick Hidden Cyclone in Leopardstown. His only trip over an extended 3 miles was in Punchestown last year where he slammed the field by 36L which again you couldn’t argue with, but all decent horses swerved the race and he beat a bunch of plodders.

In my view he simply cannot win the Gold Cup. With the jockey choice, McCoy is the complete wrong choice, just like he was for Denman a few years back. He’ll batter the fuck out of him going around when the horse needs to be coaxed in a way Davy, Ruby or Andrew Lynch would. Gigginstown are becoming their own worst enemy out of all this. Mouse wanted to run First Lieutenant in the Gold Cup, a race I’d have given him a great chance of winning but Gigginstown said he’ll run in the Ryanair. Tony Martin has wanted to put Bog Warrior back over fences for a while now but the owners say no. The trainer ultimately knows more about the horse than any other so if owners are dictating what happens then that’s worrying.

As I said, in 5 hours I’ll either be a genius or look like a fool!

Geraghty said in an interview with Paddy Power that he’d ride Anquetta - about 2 weeks ago. That was why I asked what his minimum weight is these days as its strange he’d change.

Incredible scenes as McCoy is confirmed on SDC.

fair argument save 1 salient factor, willie mullins, he knows what it takes. Synchronised won this last year, you could replace SDC with him above and make the same age unbent, but jonjo knew what it took to win a GC on one day in march. You will see the real SDC today, he was 80% for the Irish version

Petit Robin?

Willie has no idea what it takes to win the Gold Cup KC!

Ah mac, I can’t have that

The new partnership is a worry, and would be the main reason I woulndt back him but i believe this horse is capable of winning a GC

How many has he won?!

Come 3:40 McCoy will enter the parade ring draped in the tri colour. He will dismount to a chorus of Sean south as jp nods knowingly toward oleary. Micheal will received the gold cup, and announce he is in the throes of orchestrating an agressive reverse take over of British airways. The parade ring goes wild and mac is going to be sitting in the back round holding his siliviniaco docket ?

Yes as in true Irish fashion runners up are celebrated as if they are winners :stuck_out_tongue:

Not a mention of Bobs Worth anywhere this morning. Worried about him having one prep run but if he shows the same ability as last year then we’re all fighting for a runners up spot.

Yeah, but there is a horrible statistic on Henderson horses at che that haven’t run in since xmass. 0 for 46 or something like that.
