I could never understand the hype around him back in 2014-15. He always came across as a very nasty individual but a lot of his fan boys lapped it up. Do lads still fawn over him? I’d say his following has reduced significantly.

The psychological aspects of McGregor’s appeal are very interesting. I think it’s quite similar to the appeal of Trump. The celebration of stupidity for the sake of it. The rejection of empathy and intelligence. The glorification of money and individualism. The trolling aspect to his persona. The fake appeals to his being “a man of the people” while everything about his public persona reinforces a sense of loathing for working class communities. The pathetic, caricatured idea of what masculinity is. He particularly appeals to individuals with low self esteem.
