The Waterford Crystal Cup isn’t starting for another week. I’d be suprised if he plays in it considering the Harty but I’m guessing Denis Walsh is desperate for a player of Lehane’s ability at half-forward.
Kev, I noticed there is a Tom O’Neill from Aghada playing half-forward tomorrow for Cork in the McGrath Cup - know anything about him?
Do you think its okay for lehane, who is doing the leaving cert to be called into a senior panel at this time of year to play in a tournament that would be a couple of notches below challenge game standard?
Could they not leave the lad alone till after leaving cert? If he is performing well with his club, why not bring him onto panel then. with all the shit you hear about player burnout, one would have thought this would be in the players’s best interests.
Turenne, your the very man who will come on here questioning the credentials of those who coach midleton cbs. Christ these lads have enough on their plate trying to organise training/challenge matches etc around club matches back in the autumn. now they have to deal with this crap. its no wonder cork hurling has falling so much if people cannot see what is plainly in front of them
Cork minor teams have always being at their strongest when a cork school wins the harty/gets to a harty final. it would be massive boast for cork hurling if a cork team got to the final this year, whether it be midleton, colmans or charleville. we should always be doing everything to allow schools hurling to prosper, not try to hold it back. having fixtures finished by end of september for minors would be a start.
when you play at the knockout stages of the harty you are up against lads who are intercounty standard i.e. lads who in the main were minors or will be minors. Its a great environment for the development of top minors. many a lad have made a minor squad based on how they have performed in the latter stages of a harty cup e.g donal og.
This is an absolute disgrace and is something from the 1990’s. I would seriously bring DW in and question him over this lunacy if i was a member of the CB. This for me shows him up as an out and out bluffer, if its true. Are you absolutely sure about this Fenway, 'cos i will bring this up to certain people. What kind of a fucking idiot does this anymore, he’s only 18 a few months i believe.
I’m fuming over this.
Its Pierce’s brother, looks quite like him, runs quite like him. A really good club player, but i’d say he’s getting a chance “just in case” he turn out like Pierce. But Pierce was amazing at club level before they gave him his chance, this guy isn’t as good.
Its a fucking joke, and Turenne is showing a real lack of hurling nous here by thinking its ok.
While i agree its a very good thing, it is diluted these days by development squads etc and lads knowing each other and hurling together since they were 14. Before the winning school team with 4 or 5 players on the county Minors meant more continuity than alot of county minor teams get, but thats not quite as important these days. I always believe if the players are good enough its up to the management to create an atmosphere and bond within the squad to let them use their abilities to the max. There wasn’t much correlation between last years Cork Minor team, they came from anywhere and a good few were from hurling clubs, but Cutbert made them an unbelievable unit, and they won some amazing games.
Jesus Fuck. I’m actually going to say it to him myself, he works quite near me and i see him most days, thats some joke.
Isn’t Conor Lehane enough of a (very committed i believe) talent to be allowed to just play with his school, and be brought in maybe as a sub in a league game down the road. Maybe do a night a week very now and then with the Seniors and miss the odd CBS training here and there, nobody would be too upset with that. But playing LIT on a wednesday night after a schools game?
I see your football heroes ( and partners) were treated to a two week piss up in South Africa over the new year. In the current climate would a cheap ryan air flight to the canaries not suffice?? 50 people to south africa is a fair whack of change.
I bumbed into them in a hotel near Dublin Airport and I have to say they are the ugliest team I ever saw win anything B)
its crazy. Hes a great kid by all accounts. harty will be over by the end of february. he should have being told to go away and concentrate on that. After the harty, as you said he could go to challenge games and training with seniors. personally i would have left him alone until after his leaving.
if you were a coach at midleton cbs and your star player was injured playing a senior challenge match you’d question whether the effort was worth with it. its bad enough having to organise training/challenge games around club fixtures in the autumn.
turenne,
you gave an opinion on why you felt walsh was was using lehane. i pose the question whether you thought this was ok? you never answered the question asked. no one is attacking anyone here.
I completely understand fenway and Kev objecting in the strongest possible terms against the treatment of the youngster. However, Turenne’s tacit support of the senior hurling management’s stance is sickening in the extreme.
Fair enough Fenway. No I do not think it is right for DW to use Lehane, with the Harty quarters a week or so away and particularly with him doing the leaving.
I do however understand why he played him - I have no doubt DW wants to get his hands on Lehane, Wall etc as quickly as he can, so that he can save his failing inter-county career. As I said, he is desperate.
no problem turenne. Calling in these lads that just played minor is some joke. christ that was not a even a great minor team. why not let these lads cut their cloth at u21 for a year or two and then call them up when they show they are up to the mark. they are doing untold damage throwing these teenagers in against lads that are physically more advanced. Where is player welfare in all of this?
