The Cork GAA Thread 2011

i understand now and agree with both you and runt on the fitz.

When Limerick won the three U-21 titles back in 2000-2002, the munster final and AI final attracted crowds of well over 20k. Given that U-16 are free into many of the games at this grade I’d say that huge numbers of kids watch these games. I’d agree to an extent that a successful senior team raises the profile of hurling more but success at U-21, especially in counties that have not been competitive at senior grade can be a huge boost.

Ok, the lads covered this, but to add, even a Cork U21 would generate a huge following now as by our standards we are off the radar. I think Puke picked this out before, but the lack of preperation the 21’s get is a good thing, managers don’t get enough time to make a fuck of a team and most teams go out and hurl and have basic enough position taking and relatively low level of tactics.

Not at all, unless its Laois or Rosscommon or somewhere.

Wouldn’t work the gap from 16 to 19/20 is ridiculous and you’d lose even more players. I thought it might be worth a try for a while, but on reflection its an awful idea.

Thats an excellent idea Runt, you should really propose that to your club. Let Limerick, the home of Sports Science in Ireland lead the way.

good point,
more marketing like this is badly needed

Cloyne.

Did they beat Ballydesmond? Fuck me, they are some crowd.

Sure did, won by two points. 1-8 to 1-6 I think.

I happened to be at the league game, some belting match.

Midleton beating Douglas pretty handy, B’Hassig/B’Town drew I think.

FromRebelGAA:

Executive ‘recommendation’ just voted in after they refused to acknowledge that they were not entitled to one. It’s got 70 votes. Rest of votes split down the middle, so it got home with a minority. Passage got 52, which was the closest.

Well done to Cork junior footballers. A monumental achievement

JBM will hardly take the senior job will he???

If Frank is still be around to sort things at Munster council level he might.

Sars gone.

Frank is taking over the development of Pairc ui Chaiomh.

Castlemartyr bate and out of the championship

My congrats to Cork on their tremendous All Ireland Junior win today. Wonderful, just wonderful

The Examiner are touting Donal O’Grady as the man to restore a bit of pride in Cork hurling. Or failing that Tony Considine

all things being equal i would offer him anything he wants to take the job. He is without doubt the outstanding candidate. I would have grave reservations about JBM to be honest.

That’s a strong recommendation for Considine. Do you have any thoughts on O’Grady though?
