going back for another stint years later very seldom works, as Bab’s second spell with Tipp & Cyril Farrell with Galway showed - although it was Farrell’s third spell as opposed to his second spell that was the failure.
But then again I suppose it depends on the mindset of the manager. Babs, Mike Mac etc tried to use similar ideas that they used with success in the 90’s but ended up with their reputation in tatters which is a shame as both men gave a lot to hurling in their respective counties. Would JBM be a relatively progressive hurling man, if not it would end badly, heard that Cunnigham would be likely to join up with him as coach, but the short passing game isn’t as effective as it was 5 years ago and the likes of Tipp and Kilkenny have moved the game on from that

I editted it appropriatly after I reread it, but alas you got there before I saved the edit[/quote]
Sorry mate - shouldn’t have been so quick to pounce on it. A trait of the internet I don’t like; people jumping on things without giving a grace period for the post to be edited. It won’t happen again.
Intercounty management is a different animal altogether from when JBM was in charge. The fact that he has not managed at the senior club level since (to the best of my knowledge) would be another negative. Granted he may surround himself with the right people but someone like DOG know who these lads are.
I have not always agreed with DOG style of play or team selections but there is little doubt he is an innovative and outstanding coach who commands absolute respect from his players. He is exactly what we need at this junction.
You’d wonder would he do it without the remuneration. Cork county board would rightly not be in favour of paying big money to one of their own. I’d say that’s the major obstacle. O’Grady would also be well aware of the state Cork hurling is in at present. He took over the first time when they were in troubled waters, but there was heaps of talent there. Not so at the moment. I see O’Flynn also endorsed Tony Considine which would be a great appointment if it happened.
JBM is a no go, he’s a great man and all that, but he struggled to get a Junior A team going last year and fell out with them. Its not a good time for him and i seriously doubt he’d do it anyway, even if CB want him. He’s doing good work at development level and should stay there.
I actually think DO’G might be a backward step too, the game he wants to play would not suit the hurlers in Cork. While he would improve the induividual skills, but i’m not gone on the idea.
For the rest of the country ya, ffs sake Tony Considine would be the end of the end.
Diarmuid O’Flynn. Is he still on bread and water? Hasn’t impacted his journalistic insight anyway.
Tony Considine FFS.
For the life of me I can’t understand what that man has to offer as a sports journalist.
Yeah that’s what it seems like to me. Serious fall from grace while still in his prime agewise. Was he a big boozer or what? Must have been one of the only ones on that cork team if so
He was a real class act on the pitch in his prime, and epitomised the uniqueness of the position of center back. Will be badly missed, we have pretty much no one to replace him with.
My contacts in east cork are saying that the 2 gers are being sounded out as a joint management team. Would be difficult to see how that would work though.
