A message from our Childcare provider today , a generic letter addressing all parents asking that we pay 50 % of our normal fees during the shut down period so they can in turn pay staff.
I thought there would have been some form of Force Majeure insurance available and surely the Government have put aside funding for this as it was quiet clear the large cohort of workers in this industry would be affected.
Any similar requests going around?

Purely a request but of course the underlying threat is your place will not be held as there is already a similar policy in place such as having to pay in full for Christmas etc. although we pull them out for the full duration.

Its a demand - “it is policy that in unforeseen closures parents continue to pay”

Our crèche have told us they might not reopen at all if this goes on too long. Be proper fucked then. I’d rather pay them to do nothing and have them there at the end of it

Yeah its a fair point and I appreciate the long game but what kind of a cluster fuck is it if this was not anticipated with the shut down, Teaching staff will continue to be paid regardless of the duration of this shut down and lets be honest this is going to be months not weeks.
The staff will have gone and gotten other jobs in the meantime
We’ve been told that we have to pay in full for the next 2 weeks as per emergency closure section of the crèche policy booklet. I want the staff to get paid so am okay with it from that viewpoint, but I thought it was sharp enough practice on the basis that we pay for meals and they won’t incur utility costs and other bits and pieces too. My life partner is our major breadwinner and a successful person, whereas I’m a meek and pathetic individual so I’d say she’ll challenge them in due course about using parents to take additional margin.

Yeah good point operating overhead will be reduced significantly as will cost of living in the case of employees e.g. fuel costs
I have no problem supporting small businesses. We all should as far as we can for next few weeks.
But they need to do the same. Will these cunts pay the staff

All depends on the type of creche. A chain one will benefit from this. Ours is a much smaller operation run by 2 wonderful women and they will genuinely suffer. Ill be paying.
