Pat Dermodys father turned out to be an NCO in the Slua after but I never said a word, like yourself.
And nicking apples off my granny. Them days are gone Fagan. You need the safety of a camp now thereās a load of weirdos out taking videos of kids with their glasses.
The curmudgeons are circling
We used to nick apples from the Leddins house on North circular road. Home of current sitting Green TD, Brianā¦ Usually after a swim in the Ennis Road open pools. Otherwise weād go out the train tracks to Cratloe and take in an afternoon in the woods and jumping off the sand dunes before skinning a farmerās orchard on the way home.
We used to spend days playing ball on the green then hit high rock for multiple swims and fishing for mackerel. If you caught a few youād throw them onto your rod for the walk home to look like a cool fucker. Occasionally managed to sell a couple of fresh mackerel to lads out for their evening stroll. Then i discovered hash in 4th year and never did anything for the next 15 years or so. Good times.
Swap that mackerel for an apple and itās like weāve lived identical lives
We used to hop down from Summerhill over the brewery wall and out the train tracks as far as the Red Iron Bridge when we were mitching
Youād have your kids taken off you by the state if they were found wondering a train track now.
At least they wouldnāt die wondering
Running on a train track is hard to do. I discovered once.
11 weeks lead-time.
Weād be down the fields all day if we could. There was a rule that we couldnāt call to other house to go out to play until 9am, youād have it timed perfectly to be there bang on time. The bell from the Catholic Church in Callan was your guide to go home for your lunch/dinner or dinner/tea.
Did your ears pick up the Catholic bells? I thought they were set to a frequency so protestants couldnāt hear them?
They are load bells tbf. Great that here in Douglas we have the bells from the CoI church. Very handy.
Yes in general
Can hear my older fella reciting random sums as heās putting himself to sleep here. 2+1 is 3. 5+2 is 7. Etc etc. Heās obsessed with numbers and got into adding lately when it used to be all about counting. I gave him a calculator during Celtic-Rangers last Sunday and there wasnāt a peep out of him for the 2 hours. A parenting triumph.
Has there been a father & son combo of project financiers in an Irish context yet?
Dermot Desmond & sonsā¦
I donāt know why I was expecting my kids to have similar personalities and interests, as thatās not the case with me and my siblings. But my two lads are very different characters as far as I can see. All fun & games.
The talent scouts in KPMG will likely get wind of this.
