The Daddy Thread

Oh the silent disappointed treatment was a bastard, the father wouldn’t say a word for the day. Come evening time then you’d get the “Listen here to me, about last night…” and he’d calmly go through the dangers of drinking “from the top shelf” as he’d put it. Finished with “Don’t fuck around with drink or you’ll fall asleep scuttered one night and you won’t wake up”.

I’m a pint man since

Lads, any of you ever stayed in any brilliant family hotels anywhere around Donegal?

Haven’t been in a few years but this spot was always good.

I’ve stayed in that place actually. Not a whole lot for kids in it though

Whatever about the hotel boss, prepare yourself for one cunt of a drive

You’re not going to be going anywhere, pal. The best you can hope for is a takeaway coffee and flapjack from Shore (about which I’m hearing great things) and then skimming a few stones into the sea down at what’s left of the beach in Courtown. Forget holidays, forget leaving your locality.

Have driven up a couple of times in the last few years to see my uncle. Tough going alright but sure you know what’s ahead of you. Road to Monaghan from here is good enough and that’s a good chunk of the journey broken then. How the kids will handle it is another thing though

We’ve done that nearly every weekend for the last 6 months. Shore is lovely alright

Does it have to be a hotel and what time of year are you planning on visiting?

Hotel would be handiest for having a swimming pool and everything being easy but open to all options. Looking at late July / early August.

It has a pool and the owners dont give a fuck if you and the kids drink to 3 in the morning. And there are a couple of buffalo out the back…

In the bar, not the pool

Mine said the same.

I totally ignored him and poisoned myself every weekend for nearly 20 years.

Due to living here I obviously haven’t stayed in many.

The Mill Park in Donegal Town is nice. I’ve been to two wedding there, one where I was the groom and couldn’t praise it more. Donegal town sets you up nicely to hit everywhere from Bundoran to Buncrana on a day trip.

I’ve heard great things about the Inishowen Gateway hotel as a family hotel. Never been in it though. Same goes for An Chuirt in Geeedore, supposed to be class.

Check out the self catering cottages at The Boardwalk resort, Creeslough. Pricey but heaven on earth in the nicest part of the county. Right on the beach too.

Stayed in this place a few times. Was always good. Catered for weddings but they were always separate from hotel really except you’d get the odd straggler in the bar but wouldn’t disturb your night. Been a few years though.

Advice on games console for 5 year old (and his lazy dad) needed. Looking at Nintendo Switch, Playstation too advanced for him?

Shandon hotel in Dunfanaghy have a great kids club in the summer too. Good pool too and close to the beach.
