Oh the silent disappointed treatment was a bastard, the father wouldnât say a word for the day. Come evening time then youâd get the âListen here to me, about last nightâŚâ and heâd calmly go through the dangers of drinking âfrom the top shelfâ as heâd put it. Finished with âDonât fuck around with drink or youâll fall asleep scuttered one night and you wonât wake upâ.
Youâre not going to be going anywhere, pal. The best you can hope for is a takeaway coffee and flapjack from Shore (about which Iâm hearing great things) and then skimming a few stones into the sea down at whatâs left of the beach in Courtown. Forget holidays, forget leaving your locality.
Have driven up a couple of times in the last few years to see my uncle. Tough going alright but sure you know whatâs ahead of you. Road to Monaghan from here is good enough and thatâs a good chunk of the journey broken then. How the kids will handle it is another thing though
Due to living here I obviously havenât stayed in many.
The Mill Park in Donegal Town is nice. Iâve been to two wedding there, one where I was the groom and couldnât praise it more. Donegal town sets you up nicely to hit everywhere from Bundoran to Buncrana on a day trip.
Iâve heard great things about the Inishowen Gateway hotel as a family hotel. Never been in it though. Same goes for An Chuirt in Geeedore, supposed to be class.
Check out the self catering cottages at The Boardwalk resort, Creeslough. Pricey but heaven on earth in the nicest part of the county. Right on the beach too.
Stayed in this place a few times. Was always good. Catered for weddings but they were always separate from hotel really except youâd get the odd straggler in the bar but wouldnât disturb your night. Been a few years though.
