Try some breathing exercises and CBT
Sorry to read this. How about you take a fortnight off (sick leave) and just chill out, catch a few club games, get a few walks and see a bit of scenery.
I know it sounds trite but you’ve been pedal to the board for the last spell with no real signs of it easing. A few days fishing would be my bet, you’ve time to relax, mull things over, plan your dinner etc and switch off.
Best of luck going forward, there’s plenty other jobs out there if you find it’s the issue.
Go to Murphys in Brandon. Have a few pints and enjoy the view. You’ll be cured in a few hours.
He’s working in Dublin airport, you surely saw the carnage there in recent months on the back of covid which was an absolute pain in the hole particularly for airport staff with all the bullshit with it, so ya id say it’s fairly stressful.
I tried fishing once. Got bitten by a lugworm (sore) and stabbed myself with the hook. It’s not for everyone.
Get help. Ask your GP to recommend a therapist. You are the source of the stress not the job. If you are susceptible to stress the next job might be just as bad. So you need treatment.
There’s a thin line between fishing and standing like an eejit on the side of a river.
In these days of instant gratification through the phone I’d say fishing as a pastime is becoming an anachronism
That was a good old fashioned ‘panic attack’. Medication can be an absolute life changing game changer. Don’t underestimate it. Might need to try a few different ones. Obviously it won’t work for everyone and you need to try it in combination with other things but it should never be dismissed. If you had diabetes or another physical problem no one would dream of telling you not to take the medication prescribed.
Absolutely. A grand sort.
Crucial statement.
It certainly was a game changer for me. Panic attacks are debilitating and lead to physical symptoms that make the mental and physical situation confusing.
As @Fagan_ODowd said, begin with your GP, there is help and therapy out there.
One pill doesn’t fit all.
As I said, Pm if you want to talk.
Youre not far wrong tho… I suffered panic attacks for years that i put down to recreational drug taking as a chap. Eventually i just let it run through me and rationally said youre not dying you bollix, it’s just a physical sensation…
Anyway, it might not all be work related chaps. His mrs suffered a loss recently also if i remember correctly.
And life just gets to us all in different ways.
It’s great as modern men we are talking about it and not drinking it away and digging the head off the mrs like @HBV used to do.
Very difficult not to react and let it run through you. If you can master than then you’re well on your way to recovering.
I have had anxiety around intrusive thoughts/feelings for as long as I can remember. Cunts of things they are but ultimately you have to try to let them just come and go.
You’ve had an absolutely brutal time of it recently. I don’t think even you’ve realised the trauma and human suffering you’ve been dealing with (and I mean refugees, not some fat tattood scrote wailing about a security queue). There’s no easy answer but you need to understand your job is not a normal one, and you are carrying a load you weren’t, I suspect, prepared for. Once you acknowledge that, I think you’ll deal with it.
Straw that broke the camel’s back.
Agreed. Sounds like a physical reaction to stress. Happened me for a few days before but passed again. Not nice
Do you deal directly with Ukrainians arriving into the airport @Batigol, I had no idea but from other posts it sounds like you have a role there.
What does that involve? I’d have assumed that the government would coordinate that type of effort, sorry of this is the wrong thread.
Incidentally there was a lad at Schippil yesterday marshallling us like a herd of cattle, a real ignorant cunt who wouldn’t listen to any of the sob stories
My missus said he was an awful wanker (we were late for our flight) but it was how he had to be, you couldn’t be listening to peoples problems, nothing would get done
A horrible thing. Get well soon @Batigol
Have a read of Dr. Harry Barry’s book on anxiety - available on Kindle. It’s all straightforward stuff but helps to read it and have the message reinforced.
