The Joe McDonagh Cup incorporating Christy Ring, Nicky Rackard and whoever else

super going, boxing above their weight

Laois, kerry, kildare, meath and probably wicklow, derry have more clubs

Yes, Laois have 8 senior clubs, not astronomical difference mind you

Dublin teams have a grand record of going to Carlow and coming away beaten. Iā€™d rank a potential Carlow-Dublin preliminary quarter-final as a 50-50 game.

The Carlow club championship should be box office again this year.

Laois would have a good few intermediate clubs Iā€™d imagine though? Carlow have 10 hurling clubs in total by my count. 4 of those are primarily football clubs too.

Hurling is a wonderful game when teams of the same level compete. Joe mac is a smashing competition which is only payed lip service by the gaa/rte for most of the competition. Shame on them.

Laois would have a few decent intermediate \junior clubs more than Carlow anyway??

Ridiculously bad. Although I suppose outside of Carnew, Bray and Glenhealy very few take it seriously.

the waterford county board missed a trick not going after Tom Mullally

Large number of second tier teams are now second teams of senior clubs

I was just thinking the exact same thing. Tom Mullally is a serious operator and exactly the sort of manager Waterford should have been after last year. Too low profile for the Waterford County Board goons.

They should move the Joe Mc/Ring finals back to semi-final day. Thatā€™s what established these competitions in the first place. Sabotaged shamelessly by Nicky Brennan.

in fairness, that would take away the chance for the Joe Mac finalists to play in the Liam McCarthy

He has results in a lot of places - Carlow, Naas , Horeswood

If the GAA would, you know, put more games on free to air television they could publicise more of these games.

The GAA and RTE only have one goalā€¦maximise revenues.

You only have to look at where the cameras are positioned to see how relevant RTE really think you are.

The big thing with these second tier counties is there is whole swathes of the county with no hurling, Carlow town, Portlaoise, Athlone and Tullamore are huge towns who canā€™t muster together a decent 15 to compete in their respective counties.

Delighted for offaly. Tried to be smart cunts by putting out a B team in the last group game. That will learn them.
