Saddened that someone who purports to be from the midlands refers to him as dan o neill and not danny neill (pronounced nail). I would go to him as an absolute last resort as he is a healer, one physio in dublin warned me not to go near him but when i was looking at surgery one old school doctor, now dead RIP and coincidentally the father of the current football of the year told me, âi cant recommend him, but theres worse things you could tryâ i was in a queue with a dog, a calf, and an even rougher looking animal from kilkenny whos hip was at her, i was completely skeptical and told my friend whos from carlow and brought me down to him that this was the biggest mistake ever, but my god did he fix me, i took baby steps into his house, and had been walking that way for weeks, and walked freely out with hardly any pain.
As an aside i always had minor pain at the back of my neck, possibly due to the lower back pain. I went to a physio in maynooth (this ones father is a famous commentator) who gave me the, âill see you three times next week and the week after, etcâ and who despite putting his full weight on my upper back couldnt get any crack, so to speak, and told me i was too stiff and needed weeks of physio (ching ching) . So i decided to go back to myshall, mr nail, (who is gruff, says hardly anything except to ask you where you are in pain, and treats you in a spartan side room with a few holy pictures on the wall)
put his thumb on my neck, and gently tilted my head back, i heard a massive crack, felt no pain whatsoever and felt relieved immediately, and havenât had one bit of neck pain in the three years since. Im not saying go to him, as its your own choice and others have said to me they heard stories of him wrecking lads (ive never heard it directly from people though) but he did wonders for me. I think some physiotherapists institute had him give a talk a few years back, heâs no talker, hes almost 90 i think, but the gift has always been in his family supposedly

Havenât heard any horror stories Re Mr Neill, unlike others in that area.
An osteopath might be a good option farmer. I find physios are better to help you recover than to diagnose the problem.
I have been suffering for a back problem for a long time now which has brought an end to my astro career.
I first noticed it on a balmy evening in Stillorgan as we faced a Champions League evening. That evening is remember for a number of things - @Rocko 's penalty that made your manâs from Palace look low and the much recalled take from @Bandage of how courageously played on with a severed thigh muscle. Well I also suffered, in silence, as a stiffness enveloped by lower back and hip areas.
This continued after every match for a while and then became a common occurrence in my daily life. One stage last season I completely seized up and was unable to turn. There and then I knew I was fucked.
Like the typical Irish man I am, I waited about a fortnight to see someone. My first port of call - a physio, which some say was a mistake. She didnât do much only look at how I walked and sat. She massaged my back but it didnât feel any better. She seemed to rule out wear and tear as being the cause for some reason. I decided to chuck her.
Next stop was my GP who recommended an X Ray which I got gone. Nothing showing up. He recommended that I see his physio before he referred me for a MRI. Then a couple of weeks later it improved somewhat so I left it alone.
Today it has come back with a vengeance. The pain is now focused directly on my lower spine and is moving out from there.
I am feckin frustrated with this. The original physio gave me stretches to do which I did only to be in more pain afterwards. She then recommended I stop. Which I did.
My own hunch is that my lack of proper warm up during my astro career, plus having a back a mile long and more ergonomic in the work place is all contributing but at the moment this pain needs to calm down.
iâd strongly recommend you start swimming regularly âŚwill do wonders for you⌠for the record I know 2 lads who went to your man in carlow and havenât had a problem sinceâŚthey said he doesnât charge, just leaves a basket where you contribute if you think you benefitted from the visit âŚ

And he can fuck off with his âNailâ!
Dont come crying when youve laid down 600 on physios in the next month and cant walk! You have to get an mri to see is there any disk damage etc, do this before anything else, if there isnt anything noticeable then go down the physio route, ive gone to david lyons in st marys rugby club and found him fairly good, if that doesnt bring relief try an osteopath, supposed to be a good one on the Braemor road in churchtown. But get the mri first, pointless doing anything else.
Part of the âgiftâ is he cant ask you for money or else hed lose âitâ so when i was there at the end he just said nothing and i took 40 out of my pocket and handed it to him and without looking at how much it was he just stuffed it in his pocket.
Mr nail to you. When i went the second time there was a young lad there with a cork clubs tracksuit who had scans and reports and shit with him and who expected a big consultation obviously. He came out a few minutes later, told his father he felt much better but was dismayed that all his fancy dan charts werent looked at. Mr nail wouldnt have time for that big city shitehawking, or for you and your smart alec comments.
Star Geoghan in Carlow did nothing for me. But the chiropractor has done and Iâm back running again. 3 weeks ago I couldnât walk up the stairs without getting spasms in my lower back. Itâs cost me âŹ460 but I think after that Iâll only need to see her every couple of weeks. Also she has a sexy English accent.
