A close second to Kinnegar S Bay as my favourite Irish craft beer

Having a can of the O’Haras Nitro Stout. Not bad, but no Guinness and twice the price.

I had that on tap before, nice can, nice drink, you’d be fuzzy enough after three of them.

Trying this for the first time now

Is this niche pursuit unaffected by the new pricing structure for alcohol ??!

Yes, minimum pricing is for the shite beer enthusiasts only

An old chap in front of me in lidl on Monday (or Tuesday) was short 8e for a bottle of whiskey, so I paid the balance.
I think I did the right thing.
There’s a good idea behind this but it’s gonna cause hardship, my heart is going out to the winos, hard life just got a hell of a lot harder

I thought the exact same leaving Lidl last night. There’s a lad you’d usually see hanging round. I’d usually give him the coin out of the trolley. Sure whatever he’d scrape together he’d buy a can or two and head across the road (there is a kind of covered area with trees near the docks). Fucking freezing last night and he sitting outside with the old coffee cup. The unit pricing isn’t going to end his addiction. Just make him go to bigger lengths to feed it.

It might not stop him but it might help to stop a younger version of someone susceptible to alcoholism from getting into the cycle of drinking cheap drink every night I suppose is the point

It might indeed. Hard to know but that’s a fair point. I am somewhat conflicted by it all.

Why does the new legislation affect the mass produced beers and not the craft ones?

It does. The craft beer ones were just already expensive enough.

Terrible news for students with the loss of the €4 wine and €8 or something for 12 cans of Galahad

There’s a minimum price depending how much alcohol is in the can. The gay beers are already a rip off, it’s just the cheap beers that go up in price for now.

I’d say it will. Craft beers is as much a status symbol to snobby hipster types. It just won’t do to have cans of Bud or Stella hovering around the same price, they will likely insist on a price hike themselves.
