Giggs is just silly paper talk. It wonā€™t happen.

You hope.

Weā€™ll even pray

NFFC appoints our first ever Continental manager.

Nottingham Forest have appointed Philippe Montanier as head coach on a two-year contract.

A former goalkeeper, the Frenchmanā€™s playing career included spells with Toulouse, Nantes and St Etienne.

Montanier, 51, left his job as boss of French side Rennes in January having previously had stints at Real Sociedad, Boulogne and Valenciennes.

Forest sacked Dougie Freedman in March and ended last season with Paul Williams as temporary manager.

The East Midlands club finished 16th in the Championship table and Williams left soon afterwards.

Montanier had been linked with the coachā€™s job at Lens, but has instead taken the opportunity to manage in England.

He took over at Real Sociedad in 2011 and guided them to a fourth-placed finish and a spot in the Champions League in 2013.

However, his contract was not renewed and he then spent three years at Rennes, who reached the Coupe de France final in 2014.

Analysis

BBC Radio Nottinghamā€™s Robin Chipperfield:

"Itā€™s a time of great intrigue at the City Ground. Montanier becomes the first non-British manager appointed by the Reds - an appointment that has taken a long time to announce. Remember, Dougie Freedman was sacked on 13 March.

"One of the most interesting aspects of Montanierā€™s tenure could be how well he works with Pedro Perreira, who was recently appointed as the clubā€™s new director of football.

"If they can forge a strong partnership, and their views on the style of football, and potential new signings dovetail, then a prosperous future is more likely.

"The success achieved by Watford and Sheffield Wednesday under Slavisa Jokanovic and Carlos Carvalhal respectively have to be the models for Forest to follow.

ā€œThere is still plenty of work to be done at Forest, but this feels like a very significant step.ā€

Thoughts please @Lazarus @Fitzy ??

For fucks sake was my first thought.

A former goalkeeper. That was a poor enough start and it seemed to get worse after that. It just feels like weā€™ve been sold a pup. I want Dougie back.

Heā€™s got cool hair.
Iā€™m sold

Successful French managers in Britain are thin on the ground. For every one Arsene Wenger and Gerard Houllier, thereā€™s a Paul Le Guen, Alain Perrin, Jacques Santini, Remi Garde.

Canā€™t say I know anything about the man, other than having watched a couple of Sociedadā€™s CL games against United while he was managing them.

Iā€™ve been onto a friend from Brittany whoā€™s a Rennes supporter and heā€™s basically called him a big disappointment during his time there. Far too defensive, often putting 11 men behind the ball for most of a game. I donā€™t rate French managers in general. They seem quite inoffensive and I would question their ability to motivate when communicating
In a foreign language.

Fuck letā€™s give the man a chance at least. Heā€™s unlikely to be there too long regardless how he does as is the current owners style

But is this a Fawaz appointment or a Greek one?

Speaking of Greeks, we signed Stelios Apostolos today. Apparently well suited to Championship football.

What a jokeshop of a club

We officially went mad yesterday and bought in three players. One being Dubliner Stephen Henderson between the sticks

Nottingham Forest have signed Poland centre-back Damien Perquis and goalkeeper Stephen Henderson on free transfers, while defender Hildeberto Pereira arrives on loan from Benfica.

Perquis, 32, who won the last of his 14 Poland caps in 2013, joins on a two-year deal after leaving Toronto.

Henderson, 28, who played 54 games for Charlton, has signed a three-year deal.

Pereira, 20, is yet to play for Benfica in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and joins on a season-long loan deal.

Instead the Portugal Under-20 international has featured for the clubā€™s B team in the second division.

The triple signing comes three days after Forest boss Philippe Montanier said the club would not rush to make more signings unless Lionel Messi or Neymar wanted ā€œto come to Nottinghamā€.

Best wishes in his retirement to Andy Reid. He strung a handful of impressive displays together for Forest around 4 or 5 years ago and the supporters will no doubt remember that fondly.

The begrudgers are out in force already this morning, No doubt a rant from MBB is due in about 5 minutes. All the best Andy

How about you go fuck yourself

Thank you Andrew Reid. For being a great footballer and one who actually gave a shit.

Andy Reid is the Irish Messi, Ronaldo and Maradonna all in one. The fact he pisses off all the usual, predictable, boring sops so much just makes him all the more beautiful. Great man to blast out Joe McDonnell too. A top bloke all round and a man for all for all seasons (barring injury) to boot.

Were they over 4 or 5 seasons?
