Itâs utterly fascinating that a religion based on a mythological character that most likely never existed is still going strong almost 2000 years later. Itâs difficult to wrap your head around, the power of myth is an incredible aspect of human history.

Historians wonât deny that jesus existed. They will question was he the son of God. But he did exist. Must be hard for you to swallow been his birthday and all.
Sorry mate you are wrong, there are plenty historians who question the historicity of Jesus, Richard Carrier, Bart Ehrman, Reza Aslan and David Fitzgerald to name four. There are of course many historians who argue for Jesus as a historical figure, but they all work for Christian and/or Catholic universities, so their livelihoods depend on such belief.
The historians who matter though are the ones who were alive during, and in the century after, Jesusâs supposed existence. There are about 40 contemporary writers, Jewish, Roman and Greek, and they all have one thing in common, not one mention of this supposed religious leader and miracle worker. While it might be somewhat believable that the Romans and Greeks would ignore him, it is truly odd that the Jews have no record of him, considering he was a Jew.

The gospels are of unknown origin and authorship, early Christian writers such as Justin Martyr in the second century werenât even aware of them. There is no evidence whatsoever that anything in the gospels is based on eye witness accounts. Whoever wrote them had no knowledge of the area that Jesus supposedly lived in and no knowledge of Jewish religion or customs. If you read them and do a little independent research you can confirm this for yourself.
The only writings in the New Testament that are in any way reliable are four (4) of the letters written by Paul (Saul before he went mad), Romans 1 and 2, Corinthians and Galatians. They were written in the decade after Jesusâ supposed death and decades before any of the gospels were written. No mention in there of any claims in the gospels, no biographical details, no miracles, no crucifixion, no resurrection, nada, zilch.
The evidence points to Christianity having itâs origins in the mind of a man called Saul who had an epileptic seizure and met a mythological figure called Jesus in a vision.
