The biblical account of the trial of christ is believed by many if not most biblical scholars to be crafted to suit the political scene at the time. The most likely explanation being that the Jews were not flavour of the month with the Romans while the Christians were currying favour with the Romans. The Romans crucufied Christ but it would have been inconvenient for the Christians to say this. Much better to blame the Jews with whom they were in dispute.
