The Official TFK Farming Thread

A polish tree.

Could desperately do with some rain to drive on the growth!

It’s flying up west.

Has there been much rain? There is little or no growth here.

Bad land there in that other photo

Spread some fertiliser you hungry cunt

Ah ya, at least one heavy shower every week and good sunlight. Meadows are flying as a result. I sprayed that field but should have gone ten days earlier. That’s the balls of part time farming.

Ruh Roh

I’m regretting not cutting a few fields for silage last week. I have some quality silage left over so I decided to go for quantity over quality this time around.

Why? There is no growth and no rain on the way. It would be a complete waste of time and money. It looks to be settling into a very dry period.

How are the window sill salad boxes growing in Swords, mate?

What is Slurry?

I have my slurry long spread. A little bit left for a few fields I plan on reseeding later in the year. I wouldn’t be big on spreading slurry in dry conditions anyway. It can sometimes stick on the grass. I prefer to just keep an eye on the forecast and get it out just before rain.

Settle a discussion lads - is it possible to take over a farm without having a green cert done? Say a fella inherited a farm but he hasn’t the cert done, is he allowed to start farming away?

*Not me unfortunately.

I think they can, but the Green Cert has big tax benefits

I’m in this boat at the moment. It’s costing a fortune every year because I don’t have the green cert done. You can farm but it would be difficult to make money I’d imagine long term and it’ll only get more difficult too id imagine. The grants and different schemes are very good tbh.

Yes you can, but he’ll be paying higher stamp duty on inheriting the Farm. He won’t be able to get certain grants and if he does it will be a lower rate. You can do the course part time over 18 months in Pallaskenry. You’d want to be an awful flute not to do it if you have a farm coming to you.

I’m in the middle of it. It’s an awful waste of time and it’s obviously suspended now as well due to the virus.

I didn’t find it too bad, the thought of it was worse than doing it. The soil nutrition module was interesting and one or two more. Overall it was a box ticking exercise. Is Paddy Murphy still running it or is he retired?

Draw in a few loads of water to it, shur you’ve loads of it around you.
