The Official TFK Farming Thread

I’m doing the full time one. It’s only ten minutes down the road from me. It probably works out at about 20 hours a week max but they are strict enough on attendance. Nope I don’t know him. Derek O Donoghue is the principle now. They are putting in a rotary parlour at the moment. You would pick up a few things alright and some of it is interesting but it drags on a little.

I did it online in 2005, an absolute joke. Well worth it though… Its mandatory really if you’re a young farmer these days

@CillDioma no rain in the forecast this week lad.And it’s to be a lot colder.

What would the stamp duty be on inheriting a farm of say 75 acres with no green cert done, versus stamp duty on 75 acres with the green cert done?

It depends on the value. At the time I was getting the uncles farm it would have been 2% but i was exempt because the cert and legislation at the time. 2% of 2 million is a nice bit of change.

From what I’ve heard once you turn up you don’t have to do much more

Virtually no rain for the next 10 days at least.
Temps to pick up again later in the week.

Looks like this is the new norm.Flooded out of it in winter and very dry summer’s.I could live with that

That’s a disaster for me anyway. I can have my cows out in January if we get any break in the weather and would rarely have them in before November. Two to three weeks of dry weather and the grass won’t grow for me.

Yep that’s pretty much the case. I’d say if you asked them they’d give you the exam. I think I’m the oldest on the course at 27. There’s a few lads that have just dropped out of school to go farming. There’s a good few from Kerry too. They are remarkable fellas - driving into limerick city for a look most days like it’s New York or something.

This reminds me of the time we were driving from Queens to Gaelic Park in the Bronx one Sunday for s county final and there’s was woeful traffic on the Tri Borough bridge when a young lad from sneem who was only off the boat about a fortnight piped up that’s “theres a fierce crowd going to the match today boys”.:grinning:

Would any of you know if this is a native black bee?
And could you say if it’s a drone? They’ve bigger eyes apparently…to help them see the queen

I was lying in bed and I remembered I’d left the fencer off after milking. One beautiful sky out there tonight.

You’ll have to get some kind of remote for it.

It’s an awful bastard as I’m turning it off before milking to keep the cell count down. Earthed my parlour there last month too to try and help.
