The Official TFK Father's Issues Thread. I don't know how they do it

Yeah . They rang 6 timesā€¦ Gowls. I had it well in hand, and I drank none of the breast milk

They donā€™t even get 60 euro anymore

Free for under 5s so on a flat fee per kid per annum

Donā€™t think was laziness on our GP part. He is a pal of mine who I played football with for years. He ended up seeing the kid 4 times in 5 days. Once where he called to our house. Id say he would have far preferred to diagnose the HFM day 1 as its a virus and there is fuck all more he could have done

I dont think so. Docs are well used to this process as its same as medical card basically. And they will do their utmost to avoid repeat visits as its essentially ā€œdead timeā€ for them as they donā€™t earn any more for it.

Obviously some GPs better or worse than others but all in same boat with regard repeat visits

Its a general point and nothing specific to kids. I still here the standard tripe rolled out by GPā€™s. People comment about how the GP just wants them out of the room.

In fairness these days they seem a bit more willing to just move on. GPā€™s can and have been shown to be pretty influenced by drug reps also.

You can shut this reality out if you want. Its not blanket, but these things are common. Our trust of GPā€™s is too high.

Ok cool. I am wrong in this particular situation, in the sense that money is not an issue.

General point stands.

Not what i hear and see.

Same with physio. Now there is a youth injury epidemic in Ireland, but you see kids coming in all the time now for ridiculous reasons. Mothers/fathers quizzing the physio like its a professional athlete or the kid is on deaths door. The over dramtization is disturbing. And the medical professionals often play on it too. I have had clients told they should consider surgery for strained fucking shoulder ligaments by a physio. Said physios loves their connection with Santry and surgeons and everyone and anyone gets sent there. Its a disgrace.

GPs are in general hugely overworked and underpaid. There isnā€™t much money in it anymore relative to years ago. Will be a major shortage in a few years IMO

That should be pointed out to all the mammy who want their little prince or princess to do medicine and who are not suited to it

I am open to correction, but a GP is generally completely in control of his own time?

This over worked thing, i believe, is a whinge to cover for greed. In alot of cases anyway.

Why are you shiteing on about physios now when you were spouting bullshit about GPā€™s earlier? Why are you deflecting so hard?

Iā€™m comparing real experience of myself and my clients with medical ā€œprofessionalsā€. The people wildly trust with hard earned money to do the best job for them. I am pointing out a sadly high number of these professionals barely give a shit about their clients.

Do you care about your Country that much?

I care about my clients and my friends and family. And of course i care about the odd e-friend here is not getting screwed to the post by someone. I think highlighting things just makes smart and thoughtful people have a 2nd think or maybe comsider something longer.

The older i get the less i care about Ireland, its pretty much at zero now. I think National patrioism is flawed at best and dangerous at worst. I believe more in local community. However we live in a ā€œcountryā€ so other things and people control alot of what we get/do.

I have a friend who is a GP in Cork city. Self employed. Works in a very busy practise with another doctor. He earns 60 k a year for about 50 hour week.

Disillusioned doesnā€™t cover it. He could earn a multiple of that in other strands of Medicine. I donā€™t think itā€™s greedy to expect to be very well paid for a job that consumes you and where you bear unbelievable responsibility

Look i know many great medical professionals. Everyone here could name some.

But i come into contact with members of the public an awful lot. My job means alot of conversation, and being health related it means they fill.me in on many things gealth related. There is good and bad in everything. However it seems disproporionate in some of the medical professions. I also believe this is because of our educational system and culture both of oatient and the type of person who wants to be a doctor.

I think you reveal perfectly there whats wrong and in fact exposed your mate to exactly what i am saying. He believes he deserves money for his education, not because he wants to help people. The best GPā€™s just care about helping patients. I have no doubt your mate is just comparing to others and this is what frustrates him/her.

  1. Others are not always making as much as we think.
  2. Does he own the practice? If not its apples & oranges. If he wants the big money he needs to go alone. Thats more stress. It may not seem so bad making 50/60k all of a sudden.
  3. If the responsibility is that much is your mate cut out for it? Still seems all about money.
  4. Why not change course, have a different challenge, become a specialist.
  5. 50 hours a week, while i realise its alot of ā€œseeingā€ people is still not huge in a self employed role. I did 2 16 hour days last week. I like what i do, i hardly noticed till the end of the day.
  6. Hospital doctors get more money but have ragged lives. Its not that great for a life. He may be better off than he thinks.
  7. Its kinda like me wanting to be the Performance Coach at Barcelona. I could be happy with where i am going and less money. Or i could learn Catalan, do a Masters, get a job in a Spanish 2nd Div. team and work up. If i wanted it hard enough i would do it. But i wonā€™t.

Iā€™m largely just being devils advocate here and not arguing for sake of it (i think its an important conversation) but you are actually highlighting my point. Its either envy, greed, imaptience or simply not realising whats involved in making big bucks.

You made the point about babies. You also made the point that consultants were salaried and offered much better care because of that. Well doctors are salaried for these kids. Fine if youā€™ve rowed back on it.

Your other general point that doctors donā€™t really care that much is also way off imo. Iā€™m sure there are some poor or incompetent doctors as there are idiots in every walk of life. The contention that there would be more of them as doctors is ridiculous. Your paranoia about big pharma and other assorted systems of health care provisions have lead you to believe ā€˜itā€™s all shiteā€™ or ā€˜theyā€™re all cunts sureā€™. This is the attitude you supposedly despise when you make your sweeping generalisations about Ireland.

  1. Did not say all doctors or medical practioners. Not by a long shot
  2. I think trades like Solicitor, accountant, doctor, dentist etc are more open to attracting the money hungry. I donā€™t think thats a secret. I do not believe this is good for the population though. Esoecially in a small corrupt society like Irelands.
  3. I worked for a Pharma company. I met tonnes of reps and their managers. I even trained them (in a professional capacity, not physical). They will tell you getting into alot of doctors is all about getting them the best golfing holiday or x-mass present etc not to mention the most ego stroking. There is an element of that everywhere, but when it has a direct effect on human lives i think its wrong. I donā€™t think anyone can argue with a straight face that big oharma is not dirty.
  4. I work with a number different medical professions and therapies. I know many are fantastic. I stopped using ones i found to be not up to scratch. There are WAY TOO MANY.

I am passionate about it, but i also have 20 years experience now in various roles and strands of health & fitness. Instead of moving forwards like many other countries Ireland seems to be regressing both educationally and ethically.

That is the tough thing about fostering for a while; remembering theyā€™re not your kids. I donā€™t envy fosterers seeing how feral some of the kids can be but itā€™s now become a money racket with agencies getting involved rather than the CFA keeping it on a tight leash.

The judge and the CFA are obligated at all stages to look at the return of the child to the natural parent, itā€™s just the way that the law is framed and itā€™s getting more complicated every day with even foster carers getting involved in the court cases. Thereā€™s no easy answers in it

Thatā€™s rough chief. I have great admiration for people who foster because the vast majority of foster parents grow to love the kids like their own.

Art what are you opinions on this lads crusade on fathers rights. I listened to him and have heard lots of other anecdotal evidence from mothers and fathers ovee the years that court orders are solicitor scams. 150 euro every time and orders are rarely carried out.

A friend of mine got completely fucked by her own solicitor who bent to everything the other side wanted. She later found out both solicitors met every friday for lunch. She felt, rightly or wrongly, they were scratching backs and not doing their vest for their client.
In your opinion what are the issues there? In a general sense.
