Pretty unbelievable mother from what i see. On her own, 5 kids. Makes a hell of lot more good calls than bad ones anyway. And as she says or many other here would, you will get shitloads wrong.
Id say most of the “caregivers” are paid not much more than minimum wage tbh. Doesnt really make it an attractive long term career for many who would be v suitable.
Something happened with the child.
It could be anything. He might have lost his spoon. It set him off and went on and on.
The pre-school have a sort of routine in place and they might have 2 staff for a big gang of kids. They’d be doing all sorts of structured play.
The extra free year has pushed back the start age to three and seems to have blurred the lines between creche and playschool.
This little fella sounds like he just in’t ready for it yet. I’ve heard a similar story in the local playschool as well this week.
The mother inferring the lady doesn’t like him is just nuts in my view. If she wanted to get to the bottom of it, she’d try to figure out what set him off and go from there.
Of course she did. She spoke to the teacher and basically got nothing from her. “He just started screaming” was the line. And the attitude was “you don’t work, come and take the kid, he is too loud…”
And as soon as he saw his mother it all stopped and he was 100%. I would completely believe the mother about the attitude of the teacher, at 5 kids being a drama queen doesn’t really happen.
That to me suggests he was playing them, childcare 101 really. I have looked after kids, its common and pretty solvable. They play you and/or they miss their parents. You sort it, distract them, play with them, act the ass etc
Now he may be too young. I am not arguing that. But there are other kids there the same age. Now i have suggested he may not be ready. But they have to give it a try too. This was the 3rd day and the first issue. Seems incredibly lazy.
17.50 an hour i believe is base line. Around the same as low end construction.
So what is she going to do?

Id be very very (very) surprised if those jobs paid twice the minimum wage. Very surprised. A nurse would be working 6 or 7 years before they would be getting that basic wage (shift premiums might get the nurse to that level a bit quicker alright)

I found it strange myself. He was in 5 days to start for 2 weeks, then down to 4, then 3 and then they choose how many days.
No, never met this teacher before i believe. Other kids went elsewhere. She was taken back, as first meeting on first day was very positive.
That would certainly contradict what i was told.
You would want to go look at the ads out there now looking for trades. Way above that. Shuttering carpenters getting 17 no hassle. Dairygold and the likes pulling people in for that ongoing.

Yeah it’s a tough job and very underpaid. The economics of it are tricky as a business. You need one staff member for every three babies. So that staff member can only generate max 3 k a month in income. Babies are loss makers for the creche so they are only earning off the rest of the kids. It’s a very tough business to make money out of

Far cheaper though. Think she paid 200 for a period of time, maybe 3 months? Not 100%
The barriers to business in ireland are unbelievable. Not so obvious at first but when you get into it its fucking brutal. If you need an office or building you are fucked. Rigged for the big boys.
Ballincollig is owned by 3 men. 2 of them up to their necks with NAMA, yet they get away with having massive realestate lying empty and looking for outrageous rent. Don’t give a fuck about the locals.
