When dropping the 2 lads off this morning I was told that the mother of one of the eldest lads classmates had passed away. She was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer last September. The husband was in our house on Saturday with the little girl for our lads birthday parties. He expected her to have a few weeks left.

They have 4 kids, youngest is 4 and the oldest is 9 or 10. He’s a farmer so not as if he has an easy job or anything. Apart from a child dying I’m struggling to think of a worse scenario for any Dad to be left in. Anyway, I’m not really sure what the point of the post is other than go and enjoy the time you have with those little ones cos you never know what shit could lie around the corner.

one of my sisters friends passed away a couple of weeks ago in similar circumstances, they thought she’d more time but went downhill overnight. her kids are older though.

its a rough situation but the community will gather round him and the family will help as well but the poor kids with no mother at that age.

I was petrified at the thoughts of rearing one child on my own when we had our own near miss but the thoughts of 4 children and their grief, while at the same time trying to manage your own grief and also to keep the farm going would be horrendous to even contemplate.

One of the lads who has three girls between 4 and 9 at the creche Croppy Junior is lost a partner to suicide a couple of years back.

cant recall if posted on here or not, but a guy from south Kilkenny passed away a few weeks ago the day his wife arrived home with their newborn child, their 6th. He got a brain haemorrhage and died a couple of days after never regaining consciousness. She arrived home from hospital after getting a taxi because she couldnt get in touch with him and the ambulance was there and she went back with it. He was a farmer too. Really tragic stuff.
