The Official TFK Father's Issues Thread. I don't know how they do it

Typical auditor.

Why did the auditor go to France on holidays?
Because that’s what they did last year.

Why did the auditor cross the road? Because he was stuck up the chicken.

What package did you go for? My missus is very keen on that idea but I fear the price of all the add ons will fucking break me.

I think South Kerry again makes sense but she’s very keen.

I’m not sure what package to be honest. I dont think the add ons are too bad, because you’d be doing some sort of activity with them every day regardless of where you go. The fact the lodge is always nearby means catering costs should be reasonable too.

We’ll give it a shot this year and see how it all pans out.

Am heading there weekend after next. Added activities pricey enough but haven’t booked them in as yet. See how we go, kids already pumped at the thought of going

Give us a run down of how you got on and what activities were worth while etc. I’ve only heard good things about it in general, bar a few complaints about price.

We could have the 2020 TFK summer jamboree in Longford. We could marvel at how everyone has moved on since the last jamboree in 2009.

We went in November. Kids loved it. Did laser tag, climbing wall and pottery class. Booked a cabana in pool one day as well.

My tuppence

  • lodges are great - brand new so everything as it should be, can buy bbqs in shop there and bbq outside or cook in lodge

  • food in restaurants is not great bordering on bad - pancake house place was really awful - we ate out one night and if doing it again would stick to the pizza or pasta which was decent

  • supermarket is good and not too expensive but You can bring food and drink with you

  • bikes are recommended - can hire them there with the trailers or bring them - it’s a big place and everything far apart. When we were there it was cold and dry but it wet you will get wet as few minutes between places

  • pool is good. Changing room system works well. Slides are great - proper white knuckle rides. Cabana was handy. You won’t stay at the pool all day the way you would on a sun holiday as it is inside so slightly oppressive

  • I would recommend it but price it - peak times when schools are off it gets very expensive and not sure worth that premium but off peaks prices definitely worth it

  • activities are well run and good value - last about an hour - good variety - you don’t need to do loads of them with the pool and general walking/cycling about

  • in summer I imagine it must be midges/insect central as it’s a forest

We will go back this year again

Do they have falconry?

Great update. Have booked for early june so its still pricey enough but working out around the same as what we paid in the self catering lodges in fota last year.

With regards to activities you’d be paying for the usual cycle of pet farms, zoos etc anyways and be scrambling for something to do if it rains.

They do.

Falconry is great.

You check in from your car on drive In. They give you lodge number and wristbands that open door and also use for lockers in pool. They won’t offer but if kids are over 6 or so get them a wristband too which you can keep and use for extra lockers or if kids a bit older means they can let themselves into
Lodge

You then drive to lodge unpack car and then drive back to car park to park car. On day you leave you go and get car and pack it up and off you go.

@johnnysachs went to Killarney for a few nights over the summer and down to fota island for a few nights when herself was pregnant and the oldest was nearly 2,great trip and loads to see and do…

Went to Portugal last year to a family spot with the two (2 and 4) at the time with a few family members and their crazys…was really good.nice area, plenty to see and do,you could do half board of all inclusive…

Were going Back to spain where were were 2 years ago.its a camping place with a few different ranges from small mobile home type things to mini house to big glamping tents, loads for pools, centre of the place had your few restaurants shops etc and entertainment there every night which was pretty good…5 min walk from the beach, all in one compound.

Kids loved it,it’s a holiday for them tho .flying is short and transfer is short so that’s all good when you’ve kids in tow.we did the glamping and cooked most days as that suited us between herself been gluten free and kids been kids.

I’d highly recommend it…

Did you use the the industrial sized family dryer after getting out of the pool?

No. I did want to alright.

The highlight for me.
