It’s understood one potential infraction relates to a lane infringement, with the other concerning ‘hooking’, the process of athletes dragging the trail leg around the hurdle at a lower height than the barrier. Either one, if proven, would result in disqualification. Technical officials in Tokyo will first have to review video evidence of the race in question, then determine if the Irish have grounds to officially lodge an appeal.

Lovely to see one of the great Olympic traditions renewed there - the boxing sit in protest. The upholder of this tradition was a French super heavyweight who was disqualified for clashing heads in his quarter-final against his British opponent. The protest lasted 27 minutes, which is a bit behind the 67 minutes a South Korean boxer lasted in 1988 which ended with the lights being turned off on him in the arena, but it’s nice to see all the same.
