That 5 and a bit km route you did, would it be flat or hilly? I always do the same route and it is a cunt as there are some very tough up hill parts. I can’t get below 25mins on that route but i reckon if i went on a flat route i’d be a revelation. A bit of a flat track bully if you will like Silviniaco Conti.
The elevation is 10m according to my app, mate. It’s largely flat with a few minor ascents and descents - it’s basically a lap of the Grand Canal Dock / Ringsend area, over the Samuel Beckett bridge, down alongside the river to The Point / O2 / 3 Arena, over the toll bridge and down along past Clann na Gael Fontenoys GAA Club, around into Irishtown and skirting the edge of Ringsend Park and back up the Ringsend Road.
Your 3rd and 4th km are killing you there. If your first are 4:57 and 4.51 they should continue in descent. Id advise going out in 5.10 and dropping down 10-15 secs per each Km from there as you warm up. Put in an extra push for the last Km then if you feel you have it in the tank and you will easily get under 25mims.
Wouldn’t work unless everyone did it on a flat running track say. But the fun wouldn’t be in it if it was done virtual. Anyone who doesn’t want their identity known in real life could put a bag over their head like the Rubberbandits and run like that.
I’ll give that a try, pal. But I sometimes find it hard to judge how quickly I’m running and I don’t like to keep checking the time on my mobile device. I’m listening to Lana Del Rey on my runs these days.
Here you go lads. It may be unfair as it’s pretty much a home course for bandage but it could serve as a belter of a start to a tfk jamboree.
I think I’m doing it.
An average enough club runner in their 30s who is in half decent shape and trains regularly would expect to break 20 minutes. They’d not run at this speed on their own or even in training, but in a race after a good warm up.
For a lad who does a bit of running and maybe played other sports 22 mins would be decent.
Anyone who is just starting out or getting back into fitness should be aim for a time better than their last one.
Whatever you do, don’t go out and time yourself every night. Even top lads would only race every few weeks. Don’t just go out and do 10 laps every night either. Vary up your training to avoid boredom and do a bit of core/strength work to help you get faster and, more importantly, avoid injury.
