So if you have a blue tooth HR monitor its checks you cardiac rythmn. The calmer and consistent the beats the more ready you are for training. The more all over the place you are. See my wednesday score and todays score below. Wednesday i was told ease off, today i can go mad. The other photo is my week overall picture.
A piece of piss
The first 7k would be. Relatively.
As an aside, I took @caoimhaoin 's advice from months back about not mixing back strengthening weights like deadlifts with other exercises which loosen out the back such as burpees. This made sense. It also meant as a major bonus that I didn’t do any more burpees.
I think @glasagusban advised this also.
So doing burpees and kettlebell RDL’s in the same session would be a bad thing?
I think so. Any back strengthening as i understand it from kev and glas, especially heavy stuff, involves bracing and tensioning you spine. Burpees etc do the exact opposite and the two types of exercise shoukd not be mixed.
Anyone want to critique a workout like this I’m thinking of doing for the next while.
Monday: Squat, Bench, Pull Ups, Shoulder Press
Wednesday: Deadlift, Lunges, Box Jumps, Calf Raises, Bent over row
Friday: Same as Monday
One sprinting session on one of the other days and probably try to do a bit of core most days. Bit of swimming as well after the gym sessions
Looks good and balanced.
So basically HRV monitoring would allow athletes (and gaa players) to improve their performance while reducing the risk of injury? I assume that if HRV indicates ease off that injury risk is higher?
Yes. The science behind it and use of it is growing. Its used by Medicine for a long time.
Key thing though, turn it off the wed/thurs before championship. Don’t need to be worrying about such things. Its most useful in heavy blocks of training.
Would assume all GAA teams usung it at this stage then.
I think Donegal used it, i know a couple of Dublin players do. But i would say largely no, too much for the tiny brains of the managers to get their head around.
Would be interesting to know what some of these bluffers thought of the fact Leicester sometimes only trained properly once in a week between games.
Probably used it when Speer was training them. He still could be, must check it out.
Just skimming through this… Can we all log in to this app and log times?? We could have the tfk games… Unreal.
I am highly sceptical about any fitness apps including this one - variables are huge so you wonder if they are any more accurate than calorie counters
Bio babble
Happy to report I was wrong and am now a believer.
Bought a heart rate strap and downloaded the Elite HRV app.
The correlation between mood and HRV is amazing. Mood hangover effect of booze also noticeable with it. Will see how it goes with training. I read regular cold showers have a positive effect on HRV and ability to handle stress and anxiety. Will check that out.
A gamechanger.
Tell me more about this heart rate strap? What are these watch type things people are buying?
They are useless. Has to be a bluetooth strap. The readings have been scientifically checked and the watches are not up to scratch.
Go for polar bluetooth 4.0
I cannot believe you doubted me. I would never throw something like that up without having tried it.
Cold showers are brilliant… generally good after training for inflammation. And any inflammation is not good for the mind as well as body. Thats why what you eat after the training and cold shower can top it off and have you feeling like a machine the next day.
What should one eat after training kev? I’m sure I used to know one time.
Food that will induce a quicker recovery. Stay away from fruit.
Protein especially eggs is best, with veg. Broccolli, beetroot, carfots and sweet potato are all very good for killing the inflamation.
One nice little secret is ice cream or even better frozen yougart.
