Cold showers are very fucking cold. As are ice baths.
The ice cream would be a winner though.
Paganini protein ice cream.

I love cold showers. Ice baths use as positive is very dubious and recent scientific evidence suggests its placebo at best.
Ice cream is king though
These lads are missing out on the anti inflammation bit.
Hon the hogs.
Class. I had a white magnum after my run last night.
I remember @Tassotti giving me hassle after indulging in a white magnum on the way back from a killer workout before
You’ll notice he was run off the board for being a dullard.
Jumping in under the shower when it is cold for the few seconds it takes to warm up does the job for me. Harsh for a few seconds and then you feel like magic when it heats up. I reckon it is basically the same theory as an ice bath but way quicker, less dangerous and if it’s all bullshit it only takes a few seconds anyway. I reckon the cold water contracts the vessels, which expand with the hot water and allows the lactic acid to seep away a bit more efficiently. You definitely feel better afterwards.
@caoimhaoin what’s the problem with fruit. Should I ditch my post run banana?
Just late night citrus. Bananas are fine but work better with strength training because of the potassium.
For running i would be getting a sandwich with meat and maybe a liquid protein (milk is perfectly good) into you asap. Or a small-medium meal like chicken & veg.
What i find works well if you have pre cooked food or left overs or whatever is eat half a decent sized meal 90-180 mins before hand and then eat the rest after. Thats not always do-able, but can be handy.
Great advice Kev.
On inflamation. Certain people will react differently to certain foods. Dairy for me is a no no and makes shit out of my sinuses. So I avoid like the plague. Wheat dont fucking help either.
Anyway, Protein pancakes cooked the night before are lovely the next morning after a session.
Throw them into the nurtibullet and fry them in some coconut oil.
Icecream for straight after training or before bed or what? For all types of training? I’d usually gym around 6, protein shake after and dinner anywhere between 8 and 9. Any old icecream at all?
@Appendage, what’s this protein icecream and where would one source it?
Ahead of the curve as always
A sugar rush after training is good - but i wouldn’t be stuffing my face with white chocolate magnums.
In Cork the only place to get it is the Hospital, which is strange.
Both is the answer, but if you are probe to say 8/9/10 snacks then its perfevt for that.
Did ypu see the file i put up in the fitness Xl thread
Paganini, Wexford.
I don’t snack too much I’m more into big meals. I’ll put it on the list though.
I did, didn’t look at it yet but saved it to check later. Been haphazard with exercise lately and need to reorganise, that will probably give me a plan I’ll start in sept.
we stopped at a chipper in clane on the way back from our game last night
@caoimhaoin
beacuse of my chaotic personal and family life i tend to exercise late
ok i go JC football training and play the odd match but usually if i go to the gym now itll be at least half 8 before i start
i get home from work at 5 , from then till half 8 is various family tasks
i have breakfast at 9ish, up since 7, usually coffee, croissant cereal, lunch would be a wrap or some shite with a cup of tea, id have a twix bar at maybe 3 o clock with coffee, might have a banana at six with some water maybe
in fairness she cooks an epic dinner, but i wouldnt be eating this till 10 15
i know that sounds lopsided, but id say thats how it is for many lads…
any thoughts?
Just the healthier the better and high in protein (but i wouldn’t cut carbs just cos of time of day). And portion size as small as is healthy. Like i suggested somewhere else, maybe have half the meal before training. Especially weight training it won’t have a huge effect on you.
thanks Kev
trying to get back into business as ive neglected affairs of late
I think he is possibly referring to the fact that cheap I’ve cream is, or was, largely whey protein as it was cheaper than cream. I suspect that with the advent of the protein shake generation, this is not the case. Milk is, of course, full of protein. I’d imagine a high end ice cream like a magnum, the type an international businessman would buy, has a high cream content.
It would damage @Bandage profile were he seen eating a cheap ice cream though.
