Went for a jog this morning to clear the head before an important day in work. Body is in bits after yesterday. Thought I’d do 5k at an easy pace but hobbled around just 3k. Might be more to this damage than I thought

You’d want your head examined to be running at your age.

There’s a very good chance you’ll be dead before the end of the week.

Don’t like the sound of that

I’m in an awful way… Been lifting heavy for a few months now but changed it up tonight and did circuit based training… Feel like I’m gonna puke…

Any recommendations for doing weights for a lad with a dodgy back, pal? Just steer clear or are the machines any use?

cc @caoimhaoin

Puke it out. You’ll feel better for it.

Hex bar or straight?
Risk/reward of straight bar might be out of kilter for a man like @Horsebox

Have you ever tried Olympic Lifting? Kids should do it in schools. Quite humbling to try as a middle aged man and see how fucked up your mobility has become

Start with hex to get the mechanics correct — When regular bar lifting I always have it raised on steps, no need to be pulling off the floor…

Never done Olympic lifting, no… Like you, my mobility is a sham.

Circuit last night - 3 rounds of each with 30 - 45 seconds between each round.

Station 1
60 kg squat x 15
pull ups x 10
push ups x 15

Station 2 - 35kg bar locked into landmine -
Single arm press 5 left / 5 right
Single arm bent over row 5left/ 5 right
Landmine rotations 5 left / 5 right
Landmine squat x 10

Station 3
Side to side bench jumps x 10
Hex bar deadlifts (50kg) x 10
Bench hops x 10
Bench step ups (14kg dumbells)

Took about 33 mins i’d say

Start with stability lads. Thats more important for back strength. Deadlifting is great, but cart before the horse.

The other thing is deadlifting is not for everyone and picking it off the ground is not for most and uneeded.
