Did ye win anything doing that training? Ludicrous running for a football team if you don’t mind me saying so. Great for stamina alright, but unnecessary and a waste of good footballing time.
well we always did a lot of football at training but this was for a specific stint as we had been struggling with maintaining tempo for 60 minutes.
Well it is no wonder. The quality of the football training after 30 Mins of that is pretty much going to be a waste of time IMO. But maybe at the right time of the year it may not be so bad.
The more i think about this FOF the more unbelievable it is. Not doubting the hard training took place or anything, but are you sure it was 500 metres, and ye did 12 of them? Thats serious running, but with only 45 secs rest its murder altogether. Thats basically running the length of a pitch 3 & 1/2 times-4 times at 75-85% and having only 45 secs rest. Did ye go straight into that type of running? To reach that kind of level with amateur footballers, safely and correctly, would take 2 seasons.
I don’t buy that at all.
after a twenty five minute warmup . it may have been 400 meters i suppose it was the lines of the field. aren’t most senior teams together over a period of 5 years. there would have been a serious level of fitness there up untill a decline last year.
10,25 km yesterday in 51 min- 4.50 something pace- LSR, I don’t have the patience for this type of running, find it very boring
8km today in 39 something (4.54/km pace)- was supposed to an easy session
Hamstrings are not in good shape. Running slow and long is not really enjoyable although to be fair its probably more enjoyable than running long and fast- I can feel the bile rising in my throat at the thought of trying to break 45min for 10km
Kev- your intervals today; question re time- all depends on the distance- a big difference between 900 and 1200m. 4min 900m is fine running not exceptional, 4min 1200m running is very very decent especially if you’re able to repeat, very decent endurance
Took a chance playing this morning but had to pull up again with my groin, then slipped on wet tiles later on and made it worse.
Icing it now.
Ran 24 miles there this evening after the dinner in 1hr 10mins…
Were you looking for ice cream?
Running after the icecream van no doubt.
WBY,
Do you have a training log on boards?
I didn’t mean the warm up, i meant a lead up over a few weeks/months. Like starting with 200’s x 8 and moving up.
Anyway, The circumference of a GAA field is no more than 300M, and makes what ye were doing far more believable and doable, but still would need a decent base and preparation.
5 easy miles at lunch time today @8.20ish/mile
Nice one
Physio this evening, hammer in bits
i think im going to invest in one of those foam rollers.
i think im going to invest in one of those foam rollers.
most football fields in my part of the country are rectangular of which the perimeter lines vary around 400 meters.
anyway yes we did build up over a month or two. but it was more a case of 400’s * 6 to start.
i think you will find that there is a decent base to build from within most senior clubs in the country.
