The Pretend Fitness Thread

Without a doubt. My own fault really. Should have been doing more supplementary work like s and c etc. However, I found this boring as hell and took the enjoyment out of running. I had a good innings so no complaints

Anyone any good advice for overtraining? Been hitting the weights very hard lately and seeing progress shoot up over the past 3 months or so.

However in the last fortnight, everything has just fallen off of a cliff. Taking ages to recover from sessions, muscles are sore as fuck, performance plateauing or even decreasing, mad insomnia and I’m in terrible form (the nerves aren’t always the best with me).

I don’t want to stop gymming for too long as that’s usually how I combat being in bad form and I get stir-crazy if I spend too long doing nothing.

Any advice that keeps my thumb out of my hole is greatly appreciated.

Lay off the ‘supplements’

Try lifting them instead. Might be less severe on the body

Laying off the porter would be a good start anyways.

You’re overtraining mate, no choice but to pull back for a while

Would you say stop totally for a week or do something different or go a bit lighter?

Go with the latter. Drop a session or two even and replace it with a swim or yoga or something. Summer is here supposedly. Even go for a good paced hill walk/ hike

I tend to walk 12-15 thousand steps a day at work so I might just do that for a week or so, see if there’s an improvement. I’d imagine swimming is ideal for this due to the lack of impact but I can’t swim .

Can you paddle? Has your gym got a pool? Even take 20 minutes out of your gym session - have a ten minute dip in pool and ten in sauna. Even better if you can get into the sea

Learning to swim in a class would seem an ideal solution pal

ZMA - Creatine — Protein.

get on the ZMA anyway - good multi vit and protein

Sleep is the only real recovery, insomnia is a sure sign of overtraining and you won’t recover until you’re sleeping right again, I’d step back completely for about a week but I understand how tough that is, light swimming or aqua walking would be ideal
I read a really interesting new book called ‘good to go ‘ about recovery recently, I’ll post it to you if you want

No I’ll look it up myself, sound anyway.

Fuck it a week off will do the trick I think. I’ll give my hole a good thumbing as well, just to cover all my bases

Go way you clown.

Over training is a dose … you’d be bouncing off the walls at 2am even tho you’re wrecked.
