The Public Transport Thread

I’d say bus/truck driver was one of the most common things I would see written on work permits of lads coming into the country.

Just from my experience/observations

Non native truck drivers tend to be white.
Non native bus drivers tend to be not white.

The hours and work load in trucking along with a race to the bottom is a huge issue in that industry.

The combination of abuse doled out to bus drivers from members of the public on urban routes and inter city routes while working long days for shit pay contributes to that worker shortage. It’s just not worth it.

What’s the salary for a bus driver. In Dublin it’s around 40k. Can’t be too dissimilar in Cork

You’d imagine they probably get a shift allowance on top of it

I don’t think so.
Those on city service routes are eligible for OT as they are off the Tacho.
€900 per week gross is top of the scale, you rack up to that over 7 years service.
There is pension and medical options afaIr.
I was at one of their recruitment sessions.

Fair enough. Still though for some young person starting out, it wouldn’t be a bad option for a few years

Sure. But there is easier money out there it seems.

Great that kids can be late for school too

Are parents or minders included?

if they are under 9 or over 65 or are travelling with someone over 65 mate

There wouldn’t be many parents or minders under nine, so I’ll take that as a no.
