The Public Transport Thread

Would you not just fly to Bristol if going to Cardiff? That’s what I always do anyway, train pisses up.

It’s amazing how much more warm and comfortable the Irish ports are in comparison with the U.K. ones. Rosslare is luxury comparing to the two Pembrokeshire ports.[/quote]

I noticed that coming from Rhyl last summer alright, although the less said about that the better.

Sid, I used to think you were pretty sound, only going by your posts mind as I don’t know you, but then you mentioned today how you’d travelled to Munster’s two European Cup victories. I couldn’t believe it. You were a cunt all along.

Flights to Bristol are stupidly expensive that weekend Sledge cos of the rugby. Sail & Rail is only about 20% of the price at most.

Thing about Holyhead is that there are plenty of pubs in the area. One of them serves last orders at 1.30am, so at 2am it’s a brisk stroll to the ferry terminal for the 2.40am ferry, so no hanging around! I even have a mobile phone contact in the area for a pub with a few bedrooms over it, 20gbp gets me a pillow for the night if needs be.

Same can’t be said for Fishguard or Pembroke.

Bandage I forgot to tell you I was the lad who attacked you a few weeks back. And I’d do it again too ya fat bollox. Now, where’s me mashed turnips. Ligindary.

Well I picked up my public transport ticket there today, Bus & Luas job, May 2009 to April 2010. Cost is 1130 for the year, and while it might not sound like value, it can be used on all Dublin Bus services including Xpresso, Airlink, and Nitelink, as well as all Luas services including Night Luas. Really can’t argue with this, I think it’s value anyway. 94 quid a month out of the wages before tax which I won’t even really notice.

1130???

mine was 794 last year, and that was the price before the taxsaver came into play, that’s savage money

Fuckin raped

Sounds fairly steep alright, how longs your commute sledge?

I forget the price last year but it has gone up a fair bit regardless. The main bit of value for me is in terms of the Luas, it’s over 900 quid for the bus alone, so adding the Luas is definitely value. Sure how much are the Nitelink and the night Luas alone? I’d get one of those in or around twice a week, and the Airport bus I’d get at least once every month or two. I use the bus a fair bit at the weekend as well going to the gym and to my folks etc, so it definitely makes sense. Also handy for Luas out and back from Leopardstown of a Wednesday evening.

The commute to work is only 30 mins but both bus and Luas are handy for me so it’s better to have the choice.

Have the lazy fucks started up the Nitelink during the week again yet? It’s seriously hampering my midweek/Sunday night revelry.

Doesn’t look like it, surely if they’re turning a few bucks at the weekend there must be scope for some kind of limited service during the week? I wonder are they just lazy, closed-minded cunts. I’d say they are.

One shrivels slightly at this humility of going to a race meeting on a tram, and pointing out the saving, in order to lose the price of fifty taxis.

Should have gone for a taxsaver ticket Sledge:

Just in a few minutes ago. Walked from O’Connell bridge to Sandycove. What little money I have I was not giving to some grasping prick of a taxi-driver. It was a hell of a walk. Unbelievable that in a capital city in Europe I couldn’t travel by public transport to the suburbs after 11:30pm.

An absolute disgrace.

I often walk home from town as well but not that far!

I’ll be doing my best to never let it happen again. Took about 2 1/2 hours, with an aching shoulder for most of it from the bag I had with me. By the end of it I was like Beckenbauer with his strapped up arm in that World Cup match.
