The Public Transport Thread

Was in college with a lad from Feltrim. Is there some nightlink that swings completely out of its way to go through there? He used to get awful abuse over it.

the malahide/portmarnock one goes by feltrim(now known by developers as kinsealy)

Not sure about that. There are plenty of apartments and offices down in Spencer Dock. Crosbie country. There might be an argument that a lot of the apartments and offices are going to end up sitting empty for all eternity, but there might also be an argument that it would be cynical to assume they will.

If you build it

Interesting to get Shermin’s take on the new bus corridor in College Green.

Where is the little fella these days?

Things must be busy in the world of racism.

Has his blog been updated?

I know someone who lives in an apartment near the point. He says that very recently the remainder of the apartments in his building, which had been unsold for a long time, are all occupied. It would seem that Crosbie City is filling up as the Bridges/Luas/Shopping Centre all come to completion.

Update regarding Luas works - I’ve highlighted the important part for the benefit of all forumites

Please note a reminder from the RPA relating works taking place within the coming days below.

POWERING UP THE SYSTEM
For health and safety reasons as well as to avoid traffic disruption during weekdays, our crews will put the actual cables for the overhead power network into place over the weekend of 08/09 August on extended shifts.
These cables will span from Busaras to The Point.* Access will be maintained at all times.
*
May we remind people, as with the existing system, power for the Luas comes from overhead cables. Once installed, overhead cables will be live and will remain live. You are reminded for your own safety to keep clear of the cables and poles.
*
*
LATE STARTS AT BUSARAS AND CONNOLLY STOPS ON SUNDAYS AUGUST
In addition to the arrangements above there will be late starts affecting services between Connolly Station and Abbey Street stops on Sunday 09 August 2009
*
Services on the Red line will operate between Tallaght and Abbey Street Stop only between 7am and 9.15am on:
Before 9.15am trams will terminate at Abbey Street Stop. After 9.15am the normal schedule resumes.
*
We would like to thank all businesses, retailers, residents, commuters and members of the publics for their understanding and co-operation.

Kind regards

That’s a bit xenophobic isn’t it ?

Afternoon,

Please see the below from the RPA.

FURTHER UPDATES WILL FOLLOW NEXT WEEK

FROM THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2009 THE FINAL 2 WAY TRAFFIC SCHEME WILL BE IMPLEMENTED ON MAYOR ST. LOWER & TRAMS WILL START TO RUN MORE REGULARLY .
The most important change is that the traffic will no longer exit Mayor Street Lower onto Amiens Street , Mayor St Lower will become 2 way and access to & from the area will be via Commons St. Please check the attached detailed map and description of the traffic flow on the attached document to plan your routes.

HEALTH AND SAFETY DURING TESTING AND TRIAL RUNNING OF TRAMS

LIVE WIRES

  • Like with the normal Luas lines the entire overhead cabling network is live since August 2009 and will remain live. For your health and safety, please keep away from the overhead cabling.

TRAFFIC SAFETY
We ask people to welcome the trams in the streetscape. For health and safety reasons we ask other road users to:
Watch out for trams at junctions & exiting car parks.
Never block the path of trams.
Always obey signs, signals and road markings.

I think it should be scrapped on Thursday nights to facilitate late night shopping, it’s quite difficult to get from the Grafton Street shopping areas to the Henry Street area by car with the bus gate in place and it might put off shoppers from visiting both areas on impulse.

Other than that though I think it’s a success, traffic flow seems to be good around it and bus times are definately improved on that section.

Ben it’s not strictly public transport but it will have an impact on roads etc. so what’s the Department’s official position on the new cycle path from Fairview to Rathmines. Think it’s a belter myself.

Anything that hinders the unneccesary use of private cars  Public transport all the way baby!

This is terrible news, my parking space is just across from the Vaults pub, this means I will have to go back down Mayor St., turn right onto Commons St., sit in traffic at the bottom of Commons St., turn right on to the quays and sit in more traffic until I can get across the Liffey. This is going to add at least 20 mins to my journey home. A f**king joke. Nobody will be using this LUAS service anyway.

Just thinking about this one a bit further, how are they going to keep Mayor St. clear of traffic at rush hour to allow the trams to move freely? In order for the trams to move freely I need to be able to get from the Vaults pub to Commons St. relatively unimpeded, I cannot see this being possible. Any ideas how they plan to combat this Sledge?

Get pished in the Harbo one evening and rob a JCB and dig up the tracks, that should do it:thumbsup:.

Your post just shows what a waste this extention is Tinnion. Majority of people in the IFSC will be more worried about car access than the frequency of trams, the minority can easily do what they’ve always done, walk to Connolly or Busaras for trams, trains and buses, or get the 151 bus from Sheriff Street.
