The ref in this camogie game

What did you expect him to wear?

He could have worn a skort in solidarity with the lassies.

I’d say there is someone near the top of the Camogie Association in the skort supply business. Has to be a fairly niche business.

Interestingly Hockey Ireland give girls a choice of skorts or shorts and skorts seem to be the garment of choice.

The protest is probably more about having the choice, more so than the garment itself.

What was the argument for keeping it solely skorts?

They’re more ladylike.

Protestants Ted

There is actually a good reason for this and an unusual example of common sense thinking from the association, being that it is a lot more common that a goalkeeper will end up switching to play outfield mid-game in camogie than it is in hurling.

Any truth in the rumour this is all down to the influence the skort manufacturers have at the top level of the Camogie association?

Well done that referee also

The camogie association make the fai look like slick modern businessmen.

Why is paddy so needy?

It’s funny I remember it different. The other end, and a longer run in. The mind plays tricks.

Big skort?

in fairness, the GPA at the time conducted a survey, and over 80% of players wanted an option to be given to them. Yet that vote yielded a 40% return at congress. I remember at the time that Liz Howard one ranting on facebook about how the vote was done and they should all accept it, even tho it was Tipp who were one of the proposers and were going on their own county vote for the matter. Its that sort of dinosaur attitude you had with those actually voting, not giving one shite about the players. It seemed at congress, their main issue was you wouldnt have uniformity on a team, some wear shorts, some wear skorts, so they just said no.

And to give another small example, we had a congress vote in Wexford recently that affected underage matters. Our coiste na nOg held a meeting on it, voted overwhelmingly in favour, with members of our co board delegation and chairman present, but yet when they went to the county congress for the vote, they voted against. So the vote which affected the majority of the players and the club was pretty much ignored by the adult section who had the delegates to vote.

Just showing that no matter what you can do to canvass or make sure the right decision is made, if those voting dont give a shit about the wider picture and are happy to do their own thing, they will. And none more so than the LGFA and camogie who seem at pains to fuck up sport for girls.

The Laois camogie team were the latest team to protest the mandatory wearing of skorts.

The team wore shorts for their team photo before today’s game in the Leinster intermediate championship against Kilkenny in Freshford.

According to a report in the Irish Examiner, the team were told they’d have to forfeit the game if they didn’t change into skorts.

In the end they did. Laois would win the match by a point.

I get the distinct impression they didn’t canvass. I also have the distinct impression that the results of any GPA survey wouldn’t be high up on a list of things delegates of any stripe pay heed to.

Old school rules, you got to work the phones

I’m left to scratch my head after reading this. A shower of lick-arses.
Disgraceful carry on from your delegates and they should be called to account.
Am I surprised - no but disappointed - yes. Neanderthals.
