The schools

Maybe for 2nd / 3rd class and above. Any younger than that and they’ll learn as much from Blippy, Sid the Science kid and Graces Amazing Machines

Zoom class is what a neighbour in the PTA said to me tonight. Whether true or not, we’ll see

Surely some daily structure which fills at least 3 hours a day is needed.

yep, 3 hours a day zoom class and the job is oxo

3 hours pretending to do something on zoom same as pretending to do it in class I suppose, for one of my two anyway!

What about multi child households? Not every house would have multiple devices or enough bandwidth to allow each child connect to classes at the same time.

Can Zoom be added to PS, Xbox consoles I wonder?

Be grateful for the weekly email telling you as parent and guardian what your teaching plan is to be for the week

Not too sure my leaving cert kid is getting his, good reminder though

My fellas gone square eyed from Fifa and battlefront, 6/7 of the whures on it nightly can’t get near the TV

Or if the teacher has 4 children of his/her own also demanding their attention?

3 hours on Zoom is impractical for primary school kids, it’s damn hard to actually teach anything on zoom and there’s really no impetus for the children to stay focussed during the ‘boring bits’

I’d use zoom for socialising with them, going through the housekeeping, answering specific questions etc, mostly just shooting the breeze (oral language)
I’d make phone calls or personal zoom if somebody wanted specific instruction
But don’t fret about the little ones, make sure they read for a while every day, talk to them, play games, this will pass and in most cases they won’t miss much.
Kids have shown themselves to be resilient over the past 9 months, more so than their parents in many cases.

Really hope that works out for you @ChairmanDan,

I agree with that. I do think the dept should give clear guidelines on the amount of direct contact teachers should have with the kids. The list of work sent on a Monday morning just isn’t good enough and it did go on a lot. There needs to a be a somewhat consistent standard across the country.

You’d imagine they’ll pull the Leaving Cert soon enough

Nail on the head right there.

I was shocked the uk pulled exams so early. It’s a pity the reasoning behind thus was not shared.

The first vaccine dose does most of the heavy lifting afaik.
They should be using teachers and schools to administer the vaccines. Seriously. Well set up and experienced in bringing order to chaos, ideally placed throughout communities, perfect facilities.

My auld fella could dose a few hundred head of cattle of a morning. He’d be a right fella for this. All he needs is a crush, a bit of rope and a wavin pipe.

It’s a genuine suggestion. Any idiot can administer a vaccine. Teachers are sensible professionals highly experienced in crowd control and organisation.
I’d be happy to have your oul fella administer the vaccine fwiw.

I dunno. You would hope we we would be in Level 3 at least in June. It would be very doable at level 3 or less

Have you encountered Ireland’s teaching unions?
